Star Wars: Shatterpoint – Rogue One Squad Pack Rules Preview

Atomic Mass Games is showcasing the up coming Rogue One Squad Pack’s rules. Time to call in this unlikely team for an important mission!
Star Wars: Shatterpoint is going to get a new batch of characters to bring to the tabletop. Rogue One features a group of ultimately doom characters — just don’t tell them that. They have a very important mission and they will succeed even if it costs them everything.
Today we’re getting a look at the rules for Jyn Erso, Bodhi Rook, and the combo of Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe. So let’s get to the chase because we’ve got a lot of ground to cover.
Jyn Erso, Stardust
If you know Jyn Erso’s backstory then you know it’s quite tragic. Her life was not easy and that turned her into a capable person who’s willing to fight for what she believes in…even if it took a little convincing. She’s got quite a set tools to help her and her allies get around the tabletop. Both This Is A Rebellion, Isn’t It? and I Rebel grant bonus dashes. She’s can even grant an attack or boost one.
Combat-wise she’s might not be the most combat-heavy primary unit `around. But her attacks can still dish out some serious hurt — especially the Aggravated Assault tracks. Don’t underestimate her in a fight! Jyn Erso can more than hold her own and she’s got the speed to apply pressure where she needs to.
Bodhi Rook
Bodhi Rook is a secondary unit in this squad. He’s got some serious utility though and I think he’s going to be a target for your enemies. Which, if you’ve seen the movie, kind of makes sense as he was a high priority person of interest to the Empire. Anyhow, I think his I Just Need An Open Line power is going to be one to take note of. If he’s contesting an objective and there are no enemies contesting it he can really swing the momentum. It’s a gamble for your opponent either way.
As a secondary unit his attacks aren’t anything to really write home about. He does have six dice at range 5 so you can try to park him on an objective and plink away (hopefully) out of range of return fire. But let’s be real — you don’t bring Bodhi along for his combat prowess. Keep him alive and keep him messing around with that momentum track!
Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe
I’ve said this before in my articles about Star Wars: Shatterpoint and support units. These are the ones I have a hard time judging due to their impact on the game. Many of the supporting units are pretty “meh” but they can end up being a problem. Sometimes you get lucky and they win you a game. Sometimes they just act like a speed bump and get run over.
Baze and Chirrut are a little different. You can see their ability card above is teaming with options. They are going to be a very useful supporting unit for messing with Force Points/Powers. On top of that, their combat abilities are basically combined so you always have a six die attack at range or in melee. And a solid base defense of five for both, too.
The stances are also interesting and interact with what their above abilities can do, too. Honestly, they feel more like a secondary unit instead of a supporting unit, but because there are two of them, I can see why they go put into that slot.
The Rogue One squad pack is coming soon. Keep an eye out for this one to hit pre-orders!
