Warhammer 40K: Angron is a Sad, Angry, Angry, Boy

Goatboy here with a hot mess for the week talking about my big red angry boy Angron, and what he needs to be good (and angry) again.

My buddy Horton keeps trying to use the updated 10th Edition Angron, and while he used to be amazing he has lost a lot of his luster of late.  I know the World Eaters codex just came out but GW quickly fixed the Lion so why not “juice” up Angron’s datasheet and create a true primarch of death and destruction!  Why can’t he be as sweet as his cool and stinky brother Morty?

Wrathful Presence Needs a Rewrite

First thing I would do is a full rehash of his ability to choose Wrathful Presence.  I really think a good update to these three rules would be the best way to start this off and really make him powerful.  In fact I really think just making him useful to the army will be the best way to make this model show up again on the table top and maybe get a chance towards the top table.

Let’s remove all three and replace them with different things.  I think the first one should just be a simple update to give him the Kharn ability for his unit of reroll ones to hit and wound but let him do it as a cool 8″ aura.  This would be simple and we could call it Driven to Mayhem and make him a center piece to all his crazy friends on the table top.

The next one would be a super easy one of just a bonus (number) to charge rolls for the army with the (number) being the current turn they are on.  They want to be in combat and giving them something to push for as well as something that makes Angron coming back worth it important.  Plus with the limit on charges being you can only do them if you are within 12″ you won’t get a crazy 17 inch charge.  We could call it Driven by Ultimate Rage which is a name for one of the current abilities that just doesn’t work as well.

Finally I think this one could be really neat where you get to pick a Blessing of Khorne and it is just active within 8″ of him.  This way you could set up for some crazy turns and “Activate” a blessing you might have missed.  It would also let you get another thought provoking choice as you get closer into combat.  This would be the Blessings of Angron as he bellows out his rage.

Minor Angron Tweaks

There is what I feel is probably the easier fix in all of this and something that would just make him better.  I still think he should be cheaper too but if we are leaving him expensive we should really look at fixing one of the cooler things of him.  His ability of Reborn in Blood is very unique but all its limits is pretty disheartening.  The removal of all blessings to bring him back and forcing him to show up at the start of the battle round is a big pain in the butt.  I think just leaving him on 8 wounds and his old way of going back into Reserves is the way to balance him out.  Sure you might see him come back once or twice but that is ok.  He was an issue when he came back with all his wounds and super pissed.  Now he is just pissed but can easily die to a few laser shots and bullets.

Finally the last thing I think he needs and something all the Primarchs need is some kind of Tank Shock rule they just have if they charge in.  I would call it Thunderous Bulk and leave it as something the Daemon Primarchs can do.  They need to be able to come in and bully the opponent through the crush of flesh and daemonic steel.  They all look so awesome and they need to do more than just be a bullet sponge on the table top at times.
