Warhammer 40K: The Best Chaos Knight Combos – Revenge of the Titanic Punch!

Goatboy here with the biggest, thumpiest Codex Chaos Knight combos headed to the tabletop. SPLAT!
Goatboy here and the new Chaos Knight codex has given me a lot to think about. I always liked playing Chaos Knights and while I can’t live the old dreams of Lord Discordants and Chaos Knights running hand in hand – I can make some fun big smashy armies. Heck the push for the army to be full of Big Knights is a pretty amazing thing and I think will help this army a lot. Let’s look at 3 combos I like from the new book.
Chaos Knitghts Combo #1 – Deep-Striking Melta!
Detachment – Lords of Dread
Enhancement – Warpborne Stalker
Datasheet – Chaos Knight Despoiler w/Double Daemonbreath Thermal Cannon
Stratagem – Claimed for the Dark Gods to get an objective
Have you read how many shots this Giant Knight can shoot? Do you see the type of Damage a Daemonbreath Thermal Cannon can do when within Melta Range? What if you had one that could just deepstrike in and basically kill just about any model in the game. This guy is going to come in with 4d3, Strength 12, AP -4, and Damage D6+6 when in Melta range which is 12″. That’s more than the 9″ you have to deep strike within. This can just be a huge murder piece that comes crashing down and murdering whoever they want.
Also as another combo piece – you can deep strike in and use Claim for the Dark Gods for free if you haven’t used it yet and sticky an objective that you landed on. The Stratagem lets you use it during any phase and for free if your warlord is alive. A 5 OC sticky power is just amazing.
Chaos Knitghts Combo #2 – The Bully Bruiser
Detachment – Traitoris Lance
Enhancement – Veil of Medrengard
Datasheet – Rampager
Stratagem – Disdain for the Weak
Having a bully unit that is running around with a flat 4+ invulnerable save to shooting, 5+ invulnerable save in close combat, and a 6+ Feel No Pain can be really hard to deal with. This guy is going fast and just getting ready to punch you a ton of times. You look at a 6+ Feel No Pain as getting an extra 4 wounds on top of the 26 they have and that is a huge thing to deal with. Plus a lot of armies need to remove something like this with a ton small damage attacks so any extra Save is just a powerful interaction.
Chaos Knitghts Combo #3 – “That’s Not a Knife, THIS is a Knife!”
Detachment – Lords of Dread
Enhancement – Blade of Celerity
Datasheet – Any Close combat base Knight – Rampager or some of the Acastus models depending on their rules update
Stratagem – Titanic Duel
Having a giant Fights First jerk in the middle of the table will completely wreck any of the assault based armies out there. The Emperor’s Children will have to rethink how much they can pledge to the Dank Prince. The World Eaters armies will have to sacrifice so much to try and get thru the first pile of damage this giant jerk will throw out. It is just so much for any of these armies to deal with that need 2-3 units to even take out this model and basically wrecking at least 1-2 of them before hand will make this giant pile of murder the true king of the castle and most likely holding that central objective down for the rest of the game.
All of these are interesting pieces and it really shows you how Lords of Dread really amplifies in the army in a lot of interesting ways. While I do like the Infernal Lance the abilities presented by the heavy metal cover band for your local dive bar will probably be the best one to take. I know it is the one I think I will start to try out first.
For the Warmaster!
