The number of characters expands, and the fight scenes multiply. This Umbrella Academy trailer shows Season 3 is the biggest yet.

In the first two seasons, the siblings stop not one but two apocalyptic events. They return home at the end of season two thinking that the timeline is finally fixed. Not so much. They’re greeted with an alternate universe that includes an alternate version of their team – the Sparrow Academy.

A new destructive power is creating chaos in the universe (which the siblings caused), and they’re all going to have to work together to make things right. Will they be able to fix this, or is it more than a glitch in the timeline? The first Umbrella Academy trailer gives us some clues…

That Was a Lot – Let’s Break It Down

What is a Kugelblitz? It’s the German word for “ball of lightning.” It’s also a way to describe a phenomenon in astrophysics that is kind of like a black hole. I’m an entertainment writer and not an astrophysicist, so if you want to learn more go here. Anyway, the siblings have managed to create one when jumping around on the timeline at the end of Season 2. A time paradox created in the process in the creation of the Kugelblitz threatens existence – one that Five thinks will collapse in four to five days.

Who are The Sparrow Academy? They’re dickheads. Seriously, though – their origin is the same as the Umbrellas. All born on the same day and adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves. Marcus (, Ben, Fei, Alphonso, Sloane, Jayme, and Christopher have a different skill set – minus Ben, who can conjure tenticles just like dead Ben could. Bonus for them: Hargreeves believes they are a better set of children and has trained them differently and given them snazzier outfits.

The most unusual of the siblings is Number Seven aka Christopher aka the “Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube.”

Where are we? Rumor has it, that the entire season will take place in a mysterious place called Hotel Obsidian (which is a play on the title of the third TPB). It was created by Reginald Hargreeves as a metaphysical prison for the villains the Academy(s) have faced. It exists on the outskirts of reality, making it an interesting venue for a fight. There’s a lot going on in the books at that point, which I won’t get into for fear of spoiling the season.

Wait – is that Pogo? Yes. Still voiced by Adam Godley, but not the Pogo we know – this is “Pogo the Enforcer.”

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Details

Colm Feore is reprising his role as Sir Reginald Hargreeves/The Monocle. Emmy Raver-Lampman, Elliot PageTom Hopper, Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda, and Robert Sheehan will be returning as members of the Umbrella Academy. They’re joined by Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David as the Sparrows.

Convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this timeline for good, they return home to the present day. However, the celebration is short-lived when the crew realizes things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Back at the Academy, the Umbrellas clash with a new squad of Hargreeves siblings as a mysterious force begins to wreak havoc on the city.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 drops on Netflix on June 22nd.
