Builders reimagine beloved classic sets from the 1980s and ’90s with LEGO’s latest IDEAS challenge. All they need is your vote to become reality!

The latest IDEAS challenge tasks builders with creating a new set inspired by a classic, existing set they love.

Think back to that special LEGO set that made you a fan for life. What was it that captured your imagination – the details, the Minifigures, the overall theme? Now, we want you to breathe life into that nostalgic set. Add a modern twist – through design, color, features or even functionality. Show us how your childhood favorite would look if it were released today.

Remember, we want creative interpretations, not straight-up replicas!

I’m highlighting my favorites below, but more sets are up for voting. Check them all out here.

Bouncy Yellow Castle

Creator Brickcar13‘s updates give the classic Yellow Castle (375) a fun, bouncy twist. It’s a small set at 250 pieces and comes with two minifigs in LEGO knight inspired shirts. It’s the perfect size to build with your kids or take a break from your day by going back in time yourself.

Granite Grinder Mech

The Granite Grinder (4940) hit shelves in 1999 as part of the Rock Raiders line. This updated version takes the build from 8-bit to 32-bit by using new pieces and techniques, and adds a rock friend to drill into. BallisticBricks made sure to meet the size limitations, so this build only has 211 pieces, though it looks like more.

Pizza To Go… Or Stay

Based on 1994’s Pizza To Go (6350), this set is reimagined with newer pieces and colors. Creator Woligan chose to reimagine the set because it was the first one they bought with their own pocket money.

Seaside Cabana

This 226-piece build is a modern take on the classic Paradisa set Seaside Cabana (6401). Britski has expanded the framework with a lounge space and added complexity to the set with new building techniques that weren’t possible in the early ’90s.

Sidewalk Café

Another Paradis inspired set, this time an update on Sidewalk Café (6402). 10k club member GenericBrix has expanded the original set of a cafe with ice cream stand to include a dog and some more play possibilities.

Sea Serpent

The Yellow Castle isn’t the only castle set that creators had in mind. This fresh take on the Sea Serpent (6057) has 250 and a Black Knights minifig crew. HallowedBrick02 added workable rudders, a hold below deck, and a modular stern, allowing for safer storage of high-value cargo.

M:TRON Pulsar Charging Station

The Pulsar Charger (6811) gets an upgrade with a landing pad that has multiple landing points, a charging point, and cargo drop off. Everything M:Tron forces must quickly take care of things while evading the Blactron forces. Creator BrikkeLasse chose this classic set because of their memories of the set.
