There are a wide array for rules updates for the various factions out there. If you’re looking for an official rundown you can read the WarCom article for that. It’s a high level overview of the changes that you can find in the Balance Update.

I’m not going to cover each change. Partly because I’m still digesting all these updates myself. That said I wanted to talk about the three that really stood out to me.

The Big Updates

First up, the Drukhari Detachment rule Reaper’s Wager got a rework. This was the team-up of Drukhari and the Harlequins that let them wager about which side would get kills. The update now gives the side losing the wager a bigger boost while also providing a smaller boost for the winner. I liked this change as it makes the rule do something for you whole army instead of turning off for (roughly) half of your units half the time.

Next, a major update is happening with the Space Marines — particularly the Ultramarines. There was a pretty great combo/synergy with having both Roboute Guilliman and Marneus Calgar in the same list. GW wanted to tone that combo a bit. Now Guilliman’s Supreme Strategist only works once per battle round and Calgar’s Master Tactician requires him to be your Warlord. That’s a pretty big nerf.

The final change I wanted to cover was an adjustment to the T’au. The Observer system has been reworked to become easier for non-observer units to become guided. This was a change based on player feedback and one that GW themselves called “probably the biggest adjustment in this dataslate” which is saying something.

Again, these are not ALL the changes. These are just the major ones that jumped out at me. There are loads more changes that are going to be equally impactful for players in the dataslate. I liked a seeing a those Quality of Life adjustments to the various armies. There are also quite a few points adjustments floating around. Regardless of your army, you might want to check out the Munitorum Field Manual today.

Above you can see all the updated that rolled out today. So there’s even more changes that have arrived for 40k. It’s going to be a busy day cracking the (rule)books to study!

So many changes. Time to do some reading!
