Today’s story is about the survivors of Cadia, doing Cadian things–fighting traitors and mounting dangerous assaults.
If you’ve been waiting to get caught-up on your fill of Black Library back-stories and lore then now is the time of year to jump in. Running from December 1st until December 24th, Black Library will have something to read, listen to, or just check out for all things Games Workshop. You can grab them individually or pick up the whole thing as part of the Advent Calendar Subscription.
Today’s Black Library Tale is a story of Cadian Troopers, though I’m not really sure what makes them Cadian. I see absolutely no mention of Maple Syrup, Hockey, Beer, the interjection eh? or people pronouncing about differently than you might think. And looking at the cover, I’m pretty sure there’s no poutine in the story either–nor any mention of Cadian history. Like the discovery of the warning signs of a stroke, or the Halifax Explosion.
But even if it wouldn’t really pass muster as a Cadian Heritage minute, the story does still seem pretty good–a brave trooper deals with heretics while processing her grief about the death of Cadia. Action AND feelings. What more could you want? Aside from more of the rich tapestry of Cadian lore–like the Mounties.

READ IT BECAUSE
As well as being an action-packed tale of the Astra Militarum, this story shows the feelings of the Cadians on the loss of their world as they continue to defend others
The Cadian 101st regiment wage war in the depths of Hive Markgraaf. Trooper Minka, wracked by doubts and fears about the future of her regiment and her people, grits her teeth and gets on with the job of defeating the heretics who haunt the hive city. Mounting a dangerous assault into the darkest reaches of the ancient structure, they prepare to defend the planet in its darkest hour – as they failed to do with Cadia.
