Sorry for the absence last week guys, I was out sick.  Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”

Here is this week’s top 5!

Imperial Vox Cast – Episode 91 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week Bill is joined Magilla Gorilla and Snake Eyes and the boys take a good look at Vehicles in 6thEdition.  They opened up the show with a brief description of how Magilla and Snake Eyes are and what they have been up to lately in gaming and the hobby.  Up next, the guys have a discussion about Vehicles and their place in 6thEdition.  They open up with the overall feelings on vehicles and that anything that isn’t a Flyer is not really that good.  Is it better to give up a 35 point Rhino or a full unit?  They also discuss the possible return of the Land Raider, as not a lot of people are bringing what it take to pop a Land Raider.  They then cover the new Damage Table that came with 6th Edition and how it has changed.  They then move on to how Vehicle Squadrons have change and how these changes have made them from more durable.  They then discussed some of the tactics and strategies to using vehicles, and showing how they are still viable.

Opinion:  As we get further into this edition of the game, I am starting to wonder if GW’s master plan is starting to unfold.  Sure, we all thought at first that vehicles were all junk and started throwing our Rhino/Razorbacks on the shelf when the rulebook released.  But with things like the Helldrake and Daemon Flamer bombs out there, I have been starting to wonder if those cheap transports might still be viable.  I am glad to see that some of the biggest names (It was awesome to hear from Magilla and Snake Eyes btw) in the game today are all thinking the same think I am.  This was a really great show guys, check it out for reasons to break out those tanks guys!

Highlights: This week is part two of the guy’s review of Codex Chaos Space Marines!  They opened up the show with ‘This Week in Gaming’ where they cover all of the games they have been playing lately.  This included Alan’s GT experience this past week.  Next, in ‘Pat’s Corner’, Pat had an interview with Ian from Vox Net Radio, a new 40K podcast, and Teras from Geek Nation Tours.  He also talked to Dave from the Renagade Open GT and they discussed his event.  Next in ‘Tactical Terrain’, Eric is back with a new segment where he reverse-engineers something he had seen in the White Dwarf magazine and shows your how to make it.  He covers the Chaos themed Realms of Battle board, including the lightning, and a Necron display board!  He also talked about the 2013 Tactical Terrain board; this year will be the Eldar Craftworld.  Then, the guys resumed their review of Codex Space Marines, and they started off with the Daemon Prince!  They move on through the rest of the HQ choices before getting into the Troop Choices and the great question, Cultist or Power Armor?  They close out the segment by discussing the Elite choices of Chosen.  They closed out their show with their Q&A segment, where they answer questions from their Facebook fans.

Opinion:  I am so very happy that the boys have caught up and are up to date!  This week’s show was once again what I have come to expect from the 11thCompany.  The interviews were good, and to the Vox Net Radio guys I am now aware of you.  Tactical Terrain was good this week, but I found myself wanting for some photos to guide me through Eric’s explanation.  IS there a link to the forums for these?  And of course the guys are doing a great job reviewing the Chaos Codex, a few months later after all of the hype has died down.  Overal, a great show this week!

40K Radio – Episode 57 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week, the 40K Radio crew reviews the Dark Angels Codex!  They opened up the show with what they have been doing in gaming and the hobby.  Up next, in “News and Rumors” the guys talked about the latest from GW, Forgeworld, the Black Library and they run down the rumor mill on the internet.  Then the boys had their “Rapid Fire” segment, where they answer questions from their forum users.  Following that was the ‘Tactica’ section of the game, where the boys discussed their test game with the new Dark Angels Codex.  Next up in “In the Crosshairs” the boys give their full evaluation of the Dark Angels Codex.  They open up with an introduction to who the Dark Angels are and talked about some of the new models, including the new Flyers.  They then move on to the Special Characters and how they affect the game, and some of those banners we have all heard so much about.  They then give their overall feel for the book and how it will do in this edition of the game.  While this wasn’t a unit-by-unit breakdown, it was enough to get a taste of the Codex.

Opinion:  It was good to see the guys getting back to pure 40K this week, as the last couple of weeks had been lacking a bit in 40K content.  They gave a pretty solid look at the Dark Angels codex, which I appreciated.  I found myself wishing for a bit more in the Tactica segments, as there really wasn’t a whole lot to that segment.  Overall though, a pretty good show this week guys!

Highlights:  This week the boys are talking about Games Workshop bullying small time authors on Amazon.  The guys basically show this complete distain for the whole mess, including the discussion of copyright over trademarks.  They then get into the case of “Spots the Space Marine” and how this case gained so much attention so quickly on the internet.  They discuss the main crux of the issue, which is the new media of ePublishing and how this has brought so much attention to this form of media.  They move on to another discussion on what an ‘Enemy Model’ is and its lack of definition.  This leads into some of the oddball rules questions that come with Allies, including denial units, scoring units, and enemy models.  They also discuss some fun with gun emplacements and the weird rules that can come about with them.    They of course close out the show with what they have accomplished in gaming and the hobby.

Opinion:  This really was an outstanding concept for a show this week.  This whole thing blew up in GW’s face in a really short span of time and to have a more logically look at the entire mess was quite interesting.  They then top it off with some really interesting questions on how Allies work in 6th Edition.  I think we all can agree on how it was intended to work, but the wording on the rules has always been an issue.  I think we all can agree that GW would benefit great from some outside technical writes to go over everything before it goes to print.  Any volunteers?

Second Founding – Episode 24

Highlights:  This week the guys are discussing Combat Patrol!  They open up the show with what they have been doing lately in the hobby, which included some Black Library books read.  Next, the boys had a conversation about Combat Patrol.  They discuss its origins in ‘40K in 40 minutes’ and how it evolved in the 4th Edition rulebook.  They talked about some of the things that were included with the old rulebook, things like missions and templates for cardboard terrain.  They then moved on to how it moved on to Kill Zone, thanks to Big Jim, and previous Combat Patrol events at Adepticon and their experiences there and some lists that could fit into 400 points.  They then discuss this year’s ‘Zone Mortalis’ event that Adepticon will be running and some of the awesome tables and a bit on the rules.  They also touch on a model that will be given away at Adepticon this year.

Opinion:  One of my favorite types of games to play is the Combat Patrol games!  It is fast, it is fun, and you can really learn how important certain units or weapons are when the game is scaled down this small.  The guys had a really interesting show this week, discuss a bit of the history of Combat Patrol.  I do wish they had hit a bit more on to what Big Jim had done for the genre or the game, but overall a pretty good look at it.
