Welcome to another installment of “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”  Here is this week’s top 5!
Highlights:  This week the guys opened up the show by announcing that Kyle has retired from 40K Radio due to family issues.  They moved on to talk about the impending convention season, their surprise guest host Teras from Geek Nation Tours, and what Kickstarter really do for the company running them and those investing in them.  They moved on to the news and rumors section where they talked about the leaked Horus photo, the Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) rumors like the plastic Ogryn, the plastic Hydra, the Taurox, and the name change for IP purposes.  They then responded to some listener emails.  The next segment, ‘In the Crosshairs’, the boys talk about Warhammer Visions and the lack of effort there.  Next, the boys had an interview with Dave Taylor from Dave Taylor Miniatures!  They talked a little about his miniature history, which included working for GW, Battlefront Miniatures, Wargames Illustrated and now starting his own business.  He moved on to talk about his new company, what they are going to do and his hopes for the company.  They closed out the show with ‘Outside the Box’ where they discussed Rivet Wars.

Opinion:  This week’s show had one of the most famous people in our little niche of the community on the show this week!  Dave Taylor is one of the most respected names in the miniatures world and the interview with him was just outstanding.  His wealth of knowledge just astounds me!  I was also sad to hear that Kyle was leaving the show but I can understand his reasons why.  Overall, my favorite show of the week, just for the Dave Taylor interview!

Highlights:  This week Rob, Alex and Paul are discussing Superheavies and their impact on the game!  They kicked off the show with what they have been doing in the hobby and gaming.  This included some ideas for ‘depreciating’ your models and a game that they played using an Imperial Knight.  Next, the moved on to discuss Superheavies in 40K, starting off by defining what they are and how powerful these monsters are on the battlefield.  They moved on to define the rules for Superheavies, including movement, shooting, D Weapons and how they work, and much more.  They moved on to discuss how the rules for Superheavies have moved out of the ‘Forgeworld’ realm and more so into standard 40K with Escalation and Stronghold Assault.  They also talked about the release of the Imperial Knights and how they are a full blown army in 40K, further blurring the lines with Superheavies!  They then talked about how they feel that Knights help bring a balance to a lot of the ‘deathstars’ that are prevalent in the game today.  They closed out the show with a discussion about the impact of Superheavies on the game today and if the backlash is warranted.

Opinion:  This is a rather new show on the roll and they are starting to impress me, that’s for sure!  They bumped up the quality of the sound of their show and this week’s topic was a hot button one for the community.  So everything you ever wanted to about Superheavies and more specifically Imperial Knight, this is a great place to start.  Outstanding work guys, keep it up!

Highlights:  This week the boys are covering the Railhead Rumble!  They opened up the show with a few announcements before moving on to their hobby progress and games played.  They also moved on to a conversation about the Imperial Knights and their full priced Codex.  They then moved on to talked about the Railhead Rumble, starting by discussing the lists that they took to the event and a round-by-round summary of their games.  This included a Saturday night to remember!  They then broke down the event, including what armies participated at the event, the environment there, the top winners and the armies they ran, and more.  Next, they had an interview with the two TOs, Mike and Will, from the Railhead Rumble and they talked about their goals for a fair event this year and how they felt the event was run.  They then discussed the survey results from their event, where they asked the big questions like: Things the show can add/improve on to make it better, more hobby talk, more Forgeworld, adding Escalation to events and some show suggestions from the attendees.  They closed out the show by discussing some of the format changes that are coming for the show.

Opinion:  This was a really good review of a really good event!  We got to see two sides of an event, people who played in the event and talking to those who ran it.  I also like hearing some of their survey items, though it was all show based then anything else.  Overall, a pretty good show guys!  Also, made props on the X-Wing show guys.  I am really looking forward to more!

Jaded Gamercast – 168 ***Explicit***

Highlights:  This week the guys review Codex Imperial Knights!  They lead off the show with the ‘Weekly Listener Poll’ on the Monstrous Unit Type for the Dwarf Armybook.  They then moved on to the ‘Model of the Week’ where they discussed the new Chaos Space Marine Hellbrute.  Next, it was on to their review of Codex Imperial Knights.  They first hit on the lack of information found in this book, with a whopping 4 pages of rules and one model total in the whole army.  They move on to the lack luster Warlord Traits table, and the extreme price gouge this book really is.  They then discussed their feelings on the army itself, and the rules for the Imperial Knights themselves.  They then skipped on to building lists with this book and of course it had very little variation.  Aside from the good looking model, their overall thoughts on this ‘Codex’ were pretty negative and had a very lazy GW feel to it.  They closed out the show with the Listener Poll for next week.

Opinion:  When I am looking for the most unfiltered, unfettered opinion of something that GW does and no one knows why, here is where I go!  Nathan and Lange are never afraid to take a shot at the big GW when they feel it is needed, and with Imperial Knights, it is needed!  This was a really good review of this *cough* codex and its effects on the game at large.  Great show guys!

40K Global – 115 **Explicit***

Highlights:  Well, strap on your big boy pant for this one folks, as the guys checked in with a massive 8 hour show!  Yes, seriously!  This week’s show is all about the Death or Glory II Tournament report, kicking off with discussion about the Death or Glory II event, how it is run, how it is scored, and they look at their lists and those of their first round opponent’s lists.  They also look at some of the lists that intrigued them as ‘different’.    They then moved on to a round-by-round evaluation of each of their five games that weekend.  This included the lists that they went up against, their tactics during the game, and the overall outcome.  When available, they had interviews with their opponents after the game.  They closed out the show with an interview with Josh Roberts, who took first place at this great event.

Opinion:  Wow, what a show.  No really, block out a lot of time for this one guys.  While the content was outstand, as each of their tournament reviews are, my god was this a long one to get through.  I would much rather have taken this in two smaller does rather than block out two days to a single podcast.  Great show, not liking the length.  Seriously guys!
