“It was the best of times – it was the worst of times…”

This week brings us two new Khorne characters from the Age of Sigmar Bloodbound range.  And I think here are seeing what the GW design studio is really capable of – for good or bad.  The Slaughterpriest is just a superb model. It’s tall and lean, almost lanky for GW’s heroic scale standards.  The models has a strong dynamic stance and is aggressively striding forward with that huge axe.  The horns about his neck and the embedded chains in his back only add to his sense of fury.  Finally the Slaughterpriest has one of the most characterful faces and heads seen for some time from a Khornate model.   I will certainly be picking up one of these – probably for conversion work. It is GW pushing the definition of what a Khornate character can be a new direction.

Then we hit the other end of the scale of what GW can do.  The Skullgrinder is so derivative it’s almost a walking and talking cliche of Khorne.  The model is short and off-balance, with a oddness to the helmet that seems tacked on from an unrelated model.  Finally we get another insanely ridiculous weapon in the form the flying flaming anvil – similar to the widely mocked Wrathmongers.  It’s a Khornate miniature we have seen a thousand times before – and better done as well.

Do you think the Stormacst Eternals or the Khorne Bloodbound range is the best?
