Lets talk about the Imperial Fleets you can build using the new sector fleet rules.

The other week FFG put out new rules for Armada supporting larger Sector Fleets. I’ve cover the rules in depth here. These new rules allows for fleets up to 1200 points in size, and boy has that got me thinking. I think it goes without saying that I am super excited to try and field 1200 point fleets. Today lets look at one of the ideas I’ve come up with for Imperial fleets this size, not using a Super Start Destroyer.

Thrawn’s 7th Fleet

Commander: Grand Admiral Thrawn

[ flagship ] Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer (120 points)
–  Grand Admiral Thrawn  ( 32  points)
–  Chimaera ( 4  points)
–  Gunnery Team  ( 7  points)
–  Leading Shots  ( 4  points)
–  Intensify Firepower!  ( 6  points)
173 total ship cost

Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer (110 points)
–  7th Fleet Star Destroyer  ( 5  points)
–  Gunnery Team  ( 7  points)
–  Leading Shots  ( 4  points)
126 total ship cost

Using The Fleet

Rather obviously the first idea I came up with was to cram as many ISDs into a fleet as possible. While Motti was an obvious first choice I wanted to do something slightly different. The large point size was perfect to try to represent Thrawn and the cream of the 7th Fleet. So yes, you’ve read it right, thats 9 ISDs there (which I can actually field). This list is all brute power and running the enemy over. Gunnery Teams and Leading Shots ups the firepower and accuracy of the ships a lot. Meanwhile the 7th Fleet title not only fits the theme but with so many of them adds a lot of extra toughness.  Thrawn can sit back and command, and helps make the fleet more flexible.

While the fleet is kind of short ranged the main tactic of it should help. The fleet is going to form a big line and try to run the other player over. With so many large ships in play it should be hard for the enemy to slip through your blockade. Once caught you can pound the enemy to dust in no time. Speed and the surprising maneuverability of ISDs will be your friend here. Overall I’ve got a lot ideas of how to build Sector Fleets but for its impressive look alone this is the one I can’t wait to try out most.
