Games Workshop pulls the covers off the new Black Legion rules along with a preview of the brand new Chaos Terminators coming soon!

We had a feeling these guys were on the teleporter pad ready to make the jump to real-space any time now. Today, GW just confirmed that we’re getting some brand new Chaos Terminators to aid Abaddon and the Black Legion. Check out the new models and then let’s dive into their new 40K Detachment rules:

The new sculpts have some interesting tweeks – notice the combi-weapons first off. Aside from the that, we also see they have a new talbard/loincloths as well vs the old models:

It’s also hard to tell, but that axe on the Terminator in the back left could be one of the teased weapons from the Daemon Engine:

It’s got what looks like a skull on top so it could be the bit! Plus all the trophy rack bits are kind of a give-away, too:

On To The Rules!

The Black Legion is going to be heavily featured and they are getting 8 brand new stratagems in the upcoming Vigilus Ablaze. GW showed off one of them with the new Tip of the Spear:

They are also getting 6 new tactical objectives, Warlord Traits, and Relics! We’re getting a look at the first Relic which is the deadly Angelsbane

Abaddon’s New Stats

As befitting as the new model is, Abaddon is also getting some juiced-up stats too boot:

For comparison, here are his stats from the old Index/Codex:

An extra point of Strength and an additional wound – not too shabby. I wonder if his rules got a tweak or two as well…

Black Legion Specialist Detachment – Bringers of Despair

Vigilus Defiant introduced the new Specialist Detachment and Vigilus Ablaze is continuing that trend. So far, we know for sure we’re getting a Black Legion Specialist Detachment known as the Bringers of Despair:

Just like the previous Specialist Detachments, this one will cost you some CP at the start and, by itself, it really doesn’t do anything other than add the keyword – Bringers of Despair – to Black Legion Terminators in the chosen Detachment. However, that does unlock some more stratagems to the mix.

First off, Brutal Subjugation effectively doubles the penalty on moral checks these Terminators can cause in the Morale Phase. If nothing else, this really does fit the name. How practical is it? Eh…debatable. However, this also opens up the option to bring in a Field Commander:

Who DOESN’T like an extra Warlord Trait running around the table? Sure it can’t be your other Warlord or a named character, but still. We won’t know exactly how good this is until we get a look at ALL the new Warlord traits but here’s a tidbit to get your twisted mind going:

Now you can make those Elite Terminators hit a lot more reliably as they can re-roll either 1s for their attacks or any of their attack dice depending on if they have the Lord of Chaos ability or not. Don’t forget – it applies to both the shooting and melee attacks, too!

And finally, GW made it extra official with Haarkon Worldclaimer’s Lord of Raptor rule:

There was some back-and-forth with this rule and the FAQ muddied, and then un-muddied the waters. Look – he’s the Raptor Special Character and he lets Raptors of any Legion re-roll their hit rolls in melee. Period.

Vigilus Ablaze is coming soon and it’s going to have a whole new ball of hurt for the Chaos Space Marines of the Black Legion to bring!
