Games Workshop is pouring a lot of creative energy into Age of Sigmar and it’s looking better and better.

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar got off to a rocky start. It had a mountain to overcome when the game launched and it really didn’t find it’s footing until the General’s Handbook arrived and brought Matched Play points to the game. Since that soft-relaunch, it really seems like Games Workshop has been releasing more and more products set in the Mortal Realms of AoS – and they’ve been getting better and bigger with each wave.

Looking at the announcements from the AoS Open Day, the next batch of products set in the Mortal Realms has fans excited. And it’s not just models, but the landscape and lore of the game seems to be changing with each release. It’s that change that’s so exciting and refreshing. AoS feels like it’s growing and expanding in a healthy manner – and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

The Tithe

The next chapter in AoS is coming. After the events of Forbidden Power something, or rather SOMEONE has escaped one of Sigmar’s forgotten Stormvaults. It seems like Nagash has a new champion and Death is coming for all…

Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave

While it’s just a teaser, Season 3 of Warhammer Underworlds is coming soon. The fighters who were once trapped in the Mirrored City of Shadespire have found an escape – but it appears that when they battled their way free something followed them. Beastgrave will bring a whole new host of warbands and more to Warhammer Underworlds. As a competitive arena miniatures game, Warhammer Underworlds isn’t showing any signs of slowing down!

Two New Battletomes

GW also announced two more Battletomes and folks are pretty excited. Orruks are going to be brought up to speed with the current wave and the army formerly known as “The Empire” is getting redefined along with a ton of new options. Cities of Sigmar looks like it just might be what the “forgotten” forces of Order need to really get some life re-injected into them.

Both of these books look to expand the lore of the setting as the Cities of Sigmar is going to give folks options for the warriors from places like The Greywater Fastness (a call back to Season of War). And the Orruks looking to expand the Warclan options and you can bet you’re going to see Endless Spells and probably terrain kits for both! Good times ahead!

The Ogor’s Hunger

The Ogors finally got some attention as well. This was pretty big news as they are getting a new Ogor Tyrant model – and perhaps a lot more. Will we be seeing a new Ogor Battletome and perhaps even more models in the future? Beastclaw Raiders 2.0?! With the “tribes” rousing, who knows what GW has planned. And how will the Ogor’s play a role in the events unfolding? Things are looking very active for Destruction in a post-Necroquake world.

More Chaos Abounds

Chaos has two more Warbands coming to the just released Warcry – which also has 6 warbands, 3 of which are currently playable. Aside from the fact that Warcry is it’s own stand-alone game and it looks pretty fun, each of the warbands ALSO has rules for using them in AoS. When you combine that all together, that’s (eventually) 8 more units that are being added to the Chaos line-up. Each warband has a ton of new models, all with very different styles and dynamic poses. Oh and let’s not forget the Furies and Raptors as well.

Do all these new models warrant a new Slaves to Darkness battletome? Well Chaos does need to get their versions of Endless Spells and perhaps even more terrain kits, too. And since we’re kind of wish-listing here, maybe we’ll even see new sculpts for the Chaos Warriors. A Chaos Mortals refresh seems to be in the works – there are just too many models that are being added for GW to NOT do it. There is little doubt of that, but who knows time-wise when that will actually occur.

What do you think of the future holds for the Mortal Realms?
