The super-secret spy organization at the center of Mark Millar and director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman series gets a back story set during the Great War.

The timeline winds backward to WWI era Europe; some of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds are gathering to plot a war to end all wars, and wipe out millions. Someone has to stop them. Learn the origins of the first independent intelligence agency – the Kingsman – in The King’s Man.

The series has offered great fight scenes, Millar’s low brow humor (not always my thing, I’ll admit), and an overall ridiculous tone that this trailer doesn’t exactly have. Yep – it’s got Rasputin fighting with swords, explosions, and the tailor’s shop. What I’m not getting is, well, the Kingsman. Where are the smarmy, inappropriate one-liners? Maybe in the next trailer…

A new era brings in a new cast led by Ralph Fiennes with Matthew Goode, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hollander, Djimon Hounsou, Harris Dickinson, Stanley Tucci, Daniel Brühl, and Charles Dance.

The King’s Man arrives in theaters February 14, 2020.
