Valerian and Aleya are the Talons of the Emperor, and today we’ve got a look at their new rules. Come and see how sharp are the Talons of the Emperor.

One’s a Shield-Captain of the Adeptus Custodes armed with a special spear that also can shoot, one’s a member of the psychically null Sisters of Silence, together they fight crime. Well, Heresy anyway. Both of these models are a part of the Black Library Celebration 2020, and today we’re looking at how exactly they fight heresy throughout the Imperium. Mostly they do it by being a special two-model unit that have to be set up together, but it’s okay because they have some fairly impressive stats and don’t go down easily. Let’s take a look!

First up we have Valerian, who reps the Adeptus Custodes Shield-Captain statline, which is already pretty spectacular. Add to that Gnosis, his spear, which makes him fairly beastly at range or in close combat. And that would be plenty tough but then on top of that Valerian packs an additional punch with his abilities.

Like a Shield-Captain he lets nearby Custodes (including himself) reroll 1’s to hit, and has the 5+ invulnerable save and 6+ feel no pain for psychic wounds only, but Valerian also carries Guilliman’s Wreath reflected here in the Golden Laurels, which lets him, once per game, reroll either a to-hit roll with Gnosis, a wound roll, or a damage roll. I don’t know why they say the hit roll, because you’re already able to do that thanks to his normal stuff. But being able to reroll a crucial wound roll or damage roll is nice.

Then there’s Aleya, who has the honor of being the first Sisters of Silence character. And she’s pretty tough with her Somnus Blade. She’s a psychic abomination which lets you stack up modifiers against your enemy’s psykers to shut them down, and then Aleya will clean them up with her own Witch Hunter ability.

Not bad for a couple of Celebration exclusives.
