Goatboy’s 40K: Giant Khorne Axes for 9th Edition

Goatboy here and I’m prepping for the new higher points, low detachments of 9th edition. Let’s break out some giant Khorne axes.

With the push for 9th edition coming it gets hard to think about lists.  The big reveal this past week was an overall points increase in the game with most armies feeling like 1750-1850 ones.  This has me reeling a bit as it means a lot of my weird big boy armies are going to have to change a bit. I will most likely lose a unit or two as well as needing to ensure I have some Command Points left after taking what is most likely just a second detachment to activate something.

The point increases are coming…

Hello Khorne

With that in mind I look at my Lord of Skulls army and how I can fit what I hope it needs into 2 detachments.  I usually go with Alpha Legion but with the game shifting around a bit I think will have to go with Iron Warriors as we are looking at 2 detachments versus the 3 we see in a lot of other lists.  It also means we need to fit a few more things in the Iron Warriors to ensure we have some troops to score – if the scoring falls on the troop side of things more so than big boy monsters.  With that – let’s build it out and see.

I will plan to just do 1800 points as it should be ok and most likely the army I build will fit in there.  If not well then I will have to cut more things to get these monsters to work.  I will also look at the fact modifiers only stack to 1 so there is less need to try and game the system with multiple pluses to hit or wound.

AXE, AXE, AXE!!!

Proto 9th Edition Thoughts

I didn’t pick a Relic as I am not sure which to use.  I like the idea of the Mechatendrils for the Lord Disco as it gives him a way to do 4 mortal wounds to something he hits.  That doesn’t seem to bad and powerful.  I could look at making the Master of Possession better with a 2+ armor save as well.  I was going with Mark of Tzeentch as it allows me to go get extra spells and cast them if needed.  Swapping out Smite for the Tzeentch spell as well as getting a much needed Warptime on the Master is a powerful thing.  Again the cultists might need to go away if we need better troops but will see as the game comes out.

I know it is hard right now to truly list build with the only thing we can use is expect to pay 20% more for your army than you did before.  The best thing about this – I already have it ready to go whenever I get a chance to throw down with a mask and my pile of dice.
