Warcry: Catacombs isn’t just adding in new warbands – it’s adding in some brand new rules to spice up the gameplay!

Warcry as a ruleset is fairly complete. It’s an easy to learn and understand ruleset for skirmish games. With Catacombs, Games Workshop is adding in some extra Dungeon Feature rules to mix things up a bit on the board while keeping the warband rules unchanged. These new rules add some extra layers of interaction with your games and open up some new tactical options. So let’s take a look at some of these new Dungeon Features.

“Get ready to take the fight underground! Warcry: Catacombs introduces a swathe of new rules – known collectively as the Tunnels of Death rules – designed for staging exciting dungeon battles. Today, we’re looking at some of the abilities and dungeon features that add a new, narrative-driven dimension to the gameplay in every battle you fight.”

1 – Wall Breach

This one is pretty straight forward as the name implies. It allows walls which were once impassable to become passable.

2 – Arms Stash

Getting to an Arms Stash is going to benefit those models with a ranged attack. Who doesn’t like a nice bonus just for getting in range? If these are placed in key locations it can make for some tricky tactical play.

3- Cursed Caskets

Not all terrain in a Dungeon is safe – take the Cursed Casket for example. If you end your move or disengage action within 1″ of it, you’ll be rolling to see if the curse gets you!

As you can see from the image above there are even more dungeon dangers to consider. But it’s not just the terrain additions you have to consider.

“There are also additional abilities that your warbands will have access to, enabling them to interact with the dungeon environment. There are three universal abilities that can be utilised by any warband, and another three that are unique to certain factions, such as the Corvus Cabal.”

And as for that pit from the objects above? I have a funny feeling that might come into play thanks to the this new generic ability:

Leonidas approved!

So if you’re looking to mix things up in the dungeons of Warcry be sure to check out the upcoming Warcry: Catacombs! It goes up for pre-order this weekend.
