Let’s talk about what we’d like to see in a new Sisters of Battle Codex.

With the introduction of a new Battle Sisters bulletin, it seems a new Sisters of Battle Codex must be coming sometime in the near-ish future. This isn’t much of a surprise to many, as we talked about the possibility of a new codex just a little while ago. Still, it’s an exciting idea and it got me thinking about what I’d like to see out of the new codex. So let’s talk about that.

5. Minor Orders/Make Your Own Subfaction

Battle Sisters are one of the few existing armies that doesn’t currently have a create your own faction, what some might refer to as Minor Orders, section in their book. Most armies that didn’t have this got it in Psychic Awakening and it’s a staple of most 9th Edition books (with the exceptions being those armies that are already sub-factions). It feels like this is a pretty obvious addition to the book, but I’m still looking forward to it.

4. A Second Troop Choice

Sisters of Battle have a decently sized army list with a good number of units. For instance, they currently have 14 elite choices. We also know that they are getting a number of new units, which I think five having been announced and the possibility of more to come. However they are one of the relatively few armies, and I think the largest, to only have one troop choice. I think sisters could really use another troop choice, one that would really open up more build options. This troop choice could be a whole new unit, or it could just be a variation on the basic  Battle Sisters Squad, like Assault Sisters. Just something to switch it up.

3. More Saints

Saints, both Living Saints and Saintly processions are really cool. Celestine is a great part of the army. But I think it would be really cool to add more saints in. This could be more named unique saints, such as Sabbot. What I’d really like to see is a “build your own Living Saint” sort of thing where maybe much like Daemon Princes you could buy a generic living Saint and then maybe pick some “blessings” for them to have.

2. Make It Less Complicated

9th Edition is a pretty complicated game, and Sisters are one of the more complicated armies in the game. A while back I took a look at just how complicated doing even simple things with Sisters is. Simply making a save with a Sister can be something like an 18 step process, with more extreme examples getting into 40-50 step processes. While we are able, with our amazing human minds, to internally streamline this, it is still very complicated. I can’t help but think that a new Sisters book could somehow cut down on this a little and make it just a tad bit less cumbersome.

1. New Acts of Faith Rules

It’s not that I have any particular issue with the current Acts of Faith rules, though they aren’t my favorite, but it’s a clear fact that every new Sisters book has to change the Act of Faith rules. Indeed due to this we recently saw three different Act of Faith rules in effect within the same year, with the Index Rules, the Beta Codex Rules and then the Real Codex Rules. So it’s clear that with a new Codex we just gotta have new Faith rules that completely change things up. I don’t know what they should be, but they’ve got to be totally different. That’s just the rule.

Let us know what you want to see in the new book, down in the comments!
