The series is finally returning next year with bigger monsters and a look back at where it all started.

The last we saw the gang Joyce, Will, and Elle were leaving Hawkins, and Hopper was in some bizarre Soviet Era, Siberian prison. We’ll see how the characters rally to fight against, and maybe stop, the powers that keep opening the portal and letting the Upside Down through to Earth. The Duffer Brothers couldn’t leave that plotline from season three just hanging there, and based on the teasers we’ve gotten so far what’s up next is going to be big.

The first teaser let us know that Hopper lives…

The second brought back Eleven’s past at the Hawkins National Laboratory…

The Duffers have said that there will be an ancient evil arriving this season that ties everything together – which is hinted at in the most recent look by to ominous lines from Eleven. I’m hoping that means this season will wrap the story up. Four seasons is a good run for a show like this – stretching it too much could make the story become repetitious and dull. Stranger Things and its actors deserve a good ending rather than an endless drag out into blah territory.

Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower, Tom Wlaschiha, Nikola Djuricko, Joseph Quinn, Sherman Augustus, and Mason Dye are joining the regular cast of Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, and Maya Hawke.

Netflix has confirmed that the new season drops next year – they’ve done both summer and fall releases for the show. I’m hoping for sooner rather than later.
