If you were curious about the new reveals from the Grand Cathay Army welcome to the club! GW is showcasing some of the new units and we’re wanting more.

Last week Games Workshop and Creative Assembly revealed the brand new old school army of Grand Cathay for Total War: Warhammer III. If you missed it, you should certainly watch the trailer. When this one came out, we also had our own reactions to the trailer – but we had some questions as well.

One of the big question marks about the army was the names of all the new units. Again, this army had been in the lore since the early days of Warhammer Fantasy – but no army had ever materialized until last week. So all the units are new and we had no idea what they were. Thankfully, Games Workshop has put out some new bits of info about the army and the units.

Miao Ying, the Storm Dragon

Miao Ying is clearly a power-player in Grand Cathay. Capable of transforming from human form into that of a Storm Dragon, she’s got some serious powers at her disposal. Miao must defend her realm against the chaos incursions to the North (which is fitting as that lines up with the Old World pretty well). I can’t wait to learn even more about this fierce defender!

Terracotta Sentinels

When I first saw these bad boys in action I was impressed! These massive Terracotta warriors sprang to life and started smashing the forces of chaos beneath them. They moved with the grace and skill of a much lighter fighter, too. I’m curious about how they work and if Grand Cathay ever got a tabletop army, I’d want these to be the centerpieces!

Kongming Sky Lanterns and Sky-junks

These units were a bit of a surprise and cool take on the army of Grand Cathay. Utilizing their mastery of ballooning technology (and a bit of magic) the army can take to the sky in these contraptions. Of all the other unit these are perhaps the most unique from the Old World and I can’t wait to see what else Games Workshop has planned.

The best part is that there is so much more on the way! While the game has been delayed until next year, it should hopefully give them plenty of time to iron out all the kinks and add even more polish to these amazing armies. Could an army of Grand Cathay also be in store for the Old World Project? I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that front, too…

Grand Cathay is looking pretty awesome!
