Warhammer 40K: New T’au Codex Coming In 2022

Games Workshop snuck this teaser in. There’s a New T’au Codex Coming in 2022!

The T’au are hurting for a new Codex and we haven’t seen any news on that front from GW — until today! But we didn’t let this announcement stealth-suit by in another article about the new Novitiates of the Adepta Sororitas. Check this out.

“On the T’au side, the snazzy upgraded Pathfinders can be used as a normal unit in your T’au army. Their kit won’t remain ornamental for long, though – brand new options for Pathfinders will be arriving in an upcoming codex. In fact, Fire Caste commanders among you will be excited to discover that it’s one of the first new codexes coming in 2022. “

Emphasis added! You read that right as the T’au are slated to be one of the first new codexes of 2022. That’s good news for the T’au players out there as they’ve been waiting for a 9th edition codex right alongside the rest of the non-Marine armies out there.

Update Incoming in 2022!

While they did get some attention in Greater Good those changes were really pretty light. It turned out to be a better book for the Guard and Genestealer Cult than it was for the T’au. Unfortunately the T’au really got shoved to the back-burner by the Space Marines (specifically the Iron Hands) who could basically do the same thing they could but better. That was up until the Iron Hands Nerf…but by that point the damage was pretty much done. The T’au have also dropped out of the top 10 armies for a while now. Perhaps we’ll see the return of the Drones in the new codex in 2022. Not that I’m looking forward to seeing Drone-spam again…hopefully some of the options in the list get better. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes in next year.

Codex Countdown

So, at this point we have the Black Templar Codex (via the Army Box) and the rest of the army is due out officially in November. Then in December we have two mystery codexes – one Imperial and one Xenos. And now, we can pencil in the T’au book for 2022 as “one of the first new codexes” for that year. I guess that also means we can rule out the T’au as the Xenos book for December 2021, too.

Time to dust off the T’au and start getting them battle ready. A new codex in 2022!
