Three surreal, spooky, and terrifying stories are arriving next year. See all in fantastic stop motion animation in new The House trailer.

The three stories happen in the same house across time.

In the first, a 19th-century family looks to restore their family name. The second brings us into modern day. It follows a land developer dealing with some gross, unwanted guests. The third story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the house’s new owner tries to fix it.

Each has its own quirks and style. Take a look.

The Joy of Stop Motion Animation

Hand done stop motion animation brings something to this that’s special. One of my favorite animated movies is the beautiful Kubo and The Two Strings. I really appreciate the time and artistry behind each minute of it.

There are a lot of things you can do with it that are hard to create any other way. Its movement is unique, and the textures and light are more natural than its CG cousin can offer.

I’m excited that they’ve chosen it for The House and to see what they’ve done with what the format has to offer.

The Humans Behind The House

Not only does the animation look great, the voice cast is fantastic. It includes Helena Bonham Carter, Matthew Goode, Susan Wokoma, and Jarvis Cocker.

“Three visionary tales. One unforgettable place. From the leading voices in independent stop motion animation – Emma de Swaef & Marc Roels, Niki Lindroth von Bahr and Paloma Baeza – this Netflix special centers on a house and the three surreal tales of the individuals who made it their home.”

The House premieres globally January 14, 2022, only on Netflix.
