Warhammer 40K: No Roadmap? No Problem – The Codex Check In
We still don’t have a 40k Roadmap but we do have a general idea of what’s coming in 40k at least in the short term.
The T’au Codex has arrived and has been making a splash. And we know the Aeldari codex is right around the corner. And we even know the codex after that. Yet we still don’t have a confirmed Roadmap for 40k! But, using our powers of deduction, we can at least start to get a picture of what’s left and what’s coming.
Codex Confirmations
The Aeldari are almost here. Games Workshop has been hyping them up for a couple weeks now. Plus, they were 1/2 of the stars of Eldritch Omens (more on that below). With their release imminent, it’s easy to say they are confirmed.
After that codex, the Tyranids are next. They’re waiting in the wings to ring that dinner bell and start NOM NOM NOM times. Those two books are the only things that have been confirmed officially. We also don’t have dates for the Tyranid book and the slower drip of codex due to delays has us questioning their arrival. We know it’s coming…we just don’t know when.
The Remaining Codexes
So who needs a codex for 9th edition?
- Imperial Knights
- Astra Militarum
- Chaos Daemons
- Chaos Knights
- Chaos Space Marines
Harlequins*Ynnari*
*The Harlequins and Ynnari sure sound like they are getting rolled into the new Aeldari Codex. So while we’re leaving their names on the list don’t expect them to get a release outside of the Aeldari book.
Chaos Time?
Looking at the remaining list, there are 3 Chaos armies that could use some attention. And there’s also the Astra Militarum AND Imperial Knights that could use a book. But that’s really only 5 codexes left after Tyranids. Let’s not forget about those “warp-based shenanigans“ GW alluded to.
There’s also the fact that Eldritch Omens featured Chaos as the other 1/2 of the boxed set. That’s kind of a big clue right there. If we had to rank their odds, we’d have to go with Chaos Space Marines after Tyranids.
After that one, we think the odds are pretty high that there is a Knight book on the way. It could be Imperial or Chaos…or maybe GW gets super weird and does a combo book for loyal/traitor Knight Houses. Probably not…but Knights are marching for sure.
Following those teasers, we also have this random dude. Who do you suppose he’s loyal to? the Astra Militarum sure could use a new book as well!
So while we don’t have a “Roadmap” we do have some general directions:
- Next – Tyranids
- Then – Chaos Space Marines
- Knights?
- Astra Militarum?
- Daemons?
Eh, we’re just going to have to float blindly around the warp until we find out for sure!
