Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, the sequel to Fallen Order gets an official name, release window, and hero. What a day for Cal Kestis.

You know, for an Empire that wiped out all of the Jedi, there sure are a lot of them left. From the canonical Jedi who survived Order 66 to the new ones that seem to crop up all the time (however briefly), the Jedi are everywhere. Especially in roleplaying games. Don’t think I’ve played a single session of a Star Wars RPG without at least one escaped Jedi. The difference is they’re running.

And the tension between hunter and hunted, between Jedi trying to survive and help people, is what makes that such a deep well to keep coming back to. We love it. We love to see a tormented hero. Or a Jedi who finally awes the oppressors. When a plucky upstart hero takes down oppressive, fascistic agents, it just feels good. There’s something altogether human about it.

Which is why the sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Dark Souls, Jedi: Survivor was such a big hit. And the upcoming sequel got some big details confirmed up this past weekend. Check it out:

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – New Trailer

“What is your next move, Jedi?”

Experience the next chapter of Cal Kestis’ journey in STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor – coming in 2023. Picking up five years after the events of STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor is a third person, narrative-driven action-adventure game from Respawn Entertainment, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

In the trailer, we get precious few details about the stuff in the game. We see a Pau’an holding what appears to be someone holding Kestis’ lightsaber. We also get to see the titular Jedi Survivor, Cal Kestis, looking on at someone in a Bacta Tank.

Speculation is already running rampant. But hey, that’s what the leadup to release is for. Is it his mentor? Another Jedi? The Emperor again somehow? The possibilities are endless. But with former God of War director Stig Asmussen at the head of it, we might be in for a treat.

EA has said they hope to focus on the previous combat paradigms “in new and innovative ways.” And that Cal will “grow his connection with the Force.” So get ready for more Force powers. As for the rest? We’ll have to see.

Jedi Survivor will release sometime next year for the PS5, Xbox X/S, and PC
