Goatboy here showing you the winning list from the Lone Star Open that happened this past weekend. OMG Necrons Win!

I played in the LSO down here in Dallas Texas – went 3-2 and dropped the last game to make it home to see my kiddos.  The winner was Marshal Peterson piloting a pretty well painted Necron army.  Heck – he beat me round 2 in the event so I saw how is machine of death worked.

Yes, Necrons!

As you know – Necrons got a nice glow up in the updates with adding Core to a lot of things plus some very easy to get secondaries.  You mix this up with the ability for a pregame move and everyone in your army having objective secured grants you a very powerful playlist.  Heck as you can see he didn’t need to run any troops and just had some of the better options in his army wrecking my poor Knights.

Marshal went 6-0 and got 580 points with only one game being an 80 point win.  That is five, 100-point wins (including my game) and while that might seem nutty the new Necrons and Marshal just kicked a bunch of butt.  He was great to have a game with and I really appreciated how nice he was.  He also had a very nicely painted army.  I at least killed the Silent king and while I only got one other supreme commander – Magnus – during this event it was a highlight to kill that floating jerk from outer space.

List Tips & Tricks

Having your whole army get objective secured does wonders to let you score objectives and basically “throw” your whole army at an opponent as they try to figure out ways to dig out of their deployment zone.  It seems to be a lot of how Necrons just grind out the win.  Harlies and Death Guard give moments to outplay/out grind the army. But I hope GW recognizes this and maybe removes some of the Core options to things that didn’t need it.  Or at least looks again at their secondaries to allow for a little bit harder chances too score points. For example making sure they control objectives or limiting to not being able to score turn 1 on some of them.

Still – Marshal you kicked butt and congrats on winning what seems to be the second largest US event for 40k.  Also big thanks to FLG for running a sweet event.  I grabbed one of their new tables and they did show off some really nice looking new pre painted terrain.  It had a Chaos theme and you can choose your colors for it.  The buildings looked great, seemed nice to play on, and matched their chaotic landscape maps.
