Warhammer 40K: Codex Check Post Chaos Daemons

With the Chaos Daemons book dropping in from the Warp that only leaves the last codex on deck…but will it be the final Codex for 9th?

If you’ve been keep track at home the Codex: Chaos Daemons has been announced. It’s coming next and it’s an exciting time to be a follower of the Dark Gods. The Chaos Space Marine Codex just dropped and even the Chaos Knights codex is still (relatively) fresh, too. Chaos is rising.

So, where does that leave us in terms of codexes? Well, for 9th edition, we’re nearing the end of the line. There’s only one army that hasn’t gotten their book or even had an announcement:

The Astra Militarum. They are the last army to get a new 9th edition codex. Or are they? “Wait, what do you mean? What other army is there?” Let’s not forget the new kids on the block — or rather, the return of the Squats!

Yep, the Leagues of Votann are coming. And they seem like they have rules for 9th edition, too.

So now the question is if we’re getting an Astra Militarum book next or a Leagues of Votann book? And, whichever one we do get, the following codex will be the last for 9th edition. At least that’s IF Games Workshop decides to move to 10th edition or start a 9.5 Edition. Which…I’m not even going to get into at this point.

First or last? Who’s getting a book for 9th or 10th?

So, for now, what’s the Codex Check-in look like?

• Chaos Daemons (announced next)
• Astra Militarum?
• Leagues of Votann?
• End of the Edition…maybe?

How will this all pan out? We’ll find out soon! We’re already in the middle of July and the big summer announcement turned out to be The Horus Heresy boxed set. So no “new edition” announcement for 40k for the summer. We’ll be ramping up into the fall releases soon enough and then it will be Christmas Battleboxes if the cycle continues. But let’s not rule out a big announcement for 40k during the back half of this year either.
