Chaos Daemons are getting a new Warhammer 40K Codex. Here are some things we need to see.

Remember when Be’lakor was unveiled last year? After a long wait he’s moving over to the Grimdark with a new book.

Chaos Daemons are getting a new Codex. This has been confirmed by GW. While the announcement didn’t contain a release date we can guess they are coming in the near-ish future. Today lets look at a few things we’d like to see the Chaos Daemons Codex feature or do.

5. New Ways  of Summoning

Almost every new Codex Chaos Daemons comes with a new way to summon them. Sometimes its good, sometimes its bad. It’s normally different. So yeah, this is something we’d like to see the Codex do. I’d like to see a new and interesting way for summoning to work for 9th Edition. And also one that doesn’t break the game. I’m I asking too much? We shall see!

4. New Chaos Daemons Units

So far we haven’t got any announcements for new units. I’m really hoping that changes. Daemons are unique among 40K factions and they let the model designers break the rules of their own universe. You can get some really cool and unique models out of them. Many of the more recent Daemons such as Horticulous Slimux and Be’lakor are among the best models they’ve put out. I really hope this release is more than just a book and gets us a couple cool new models. Oh, can we finally get a new Epidemius model!

3. Better Ways of Interacting With CSM

Chaos Daemons aren’t a standalone faction.  They act as a part of the greater Chaos faction. As such they need to somewhat work together with the other books and armies. Ideally Daemons will be able to both stand as their own army on the their own, and lend a hand to other factions. That hasn’t always been the case. In the past there have been times where Daemons only worked as a small part of another army. At other times they’ve only really worked on their own, and been fairly useless as allies. Given that 9th has cut back on soup a lot, I’m hoping Chaos Daemons are able to walk a middle ground here.

2. Interesting Sub-faction Combinations

One of the challenges with Daemons is that they are essentially four different armies. That don’t always get along. Making a book that combines them isn’t always easy. We know Be’lakor is in the book, and he normally represents Chaos Undivided, the union of all four goods. We’d also like to see some other cool options. I’d like some strong incentives for taking a mono-god army. Let’s get some rewards for total dedication!

With that said it would also be cool to get some specific rules representing that some gods get along better than others. And that some of them have real rivalries. I think there are some cool ways you could see this play out on the tabletop, and I’d like to see some new things tried out by GW.

1. Chaos Daemons Internal Balance

This is something that’s really hard, but we hope for it from every book.  We’d really like to see some good internal balance in Chaos Daemons. In this case, I’m not even really talking about all the units being good. That would be a plus, but what we really want is for ALL the gods/factions to be good. With the forces of four gods in one book its really easy for one of the gods to get all the love. Probably my main hope for the book is simple. That several months after the codex is releases, we see the forces of all four gods being played on the tabletop.
