Moonage Daydream arrives next month, and it wouldn’t be a doc about the musical innovator without a matching soundtrack.

This is the first doc to be approved by the Bowie Estate. They gave director Brett Morgen access to hundreds of hours never before seen behind the scenes and concert footage of Bowie that span his sixty-year career. It covers Ziggy Stardust to Labyrinth to Lazarus and features narration from Bowie himself.

“Moonage Daydream illuminates the life and genius of David Bowie, one of the most prolific and influential artists of our time. Told through sublime, kaleidoscopic, never-before-seen footage, performances and music, Brett Morgen’s (Cobain: Montage of Heck) feature length experiential cinematic odyssey explores David Bowie’s creative, musical and spiritual journey.”

The documentary debuts exclusively in IMAX format starting September 16th. Tickets are on sale now.

The Companion Album

The companion album includes iconic songs that hit the top of the charts like “Let’s Dance”, “Heroes’, and “Changes.” Plus a bunch of deep cuts, live medleys, and b-sides that hardcore fans and collectors will appreciate. The album also includes an orchestral version of “Sons of the Silent Age” performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The album drops on digital on September 16th coinciding with the doc. A physical CD will be out November 18th and a three-record vinyl edition will be available next year from ISO and Parlophone. They were nice enough to share a preview and a track list (below the video).

“This version is a unique mix starting with the isolated piano motif from the track, building up into the chorus before ending on the a cappella backing vocals offering an insight into the individual elements that create the classic we all know and love.”
