The Witcher: Blood Origin turns back the clock to the conjunction of the sphere and the creation of the first Witcher. Here’s what we know about the series.

The live-action series is set in the far-flung past and gets into the creation of the first Witcher. The prequel isn’t based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels; it’s all-new material. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has worked on the original Witcher series and the Nightmare of the Wolf anime, is on as executive producer. It’s being run by Declan de Barra (The Originals) and Sapkowski is on as a consultant to make sure everything lines up properly.

“Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time—the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal in ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

Production has moved swiftly. Around this time last year, Netflix shared a video of the cast doing their first table read and a look at the studio/sets with showrunner Declan De Barra.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Release Date

During TUDUM this weekend they dropped the first poster plus the release date – December 25th. It’s sooner than a lot of us expected. I’m looking forward to new trailers and images that reveal more about the story as we get closer to the series’ debut.
