Warhammer 40K Meta Hotness: Chaos Daemons Skarbrand

4 Minute Read
Sep 28 2022

Today’s outside the box meta hotness is the Skarbrand the most angriest of the angry boys from the Chaos Daemons Codex.

Skarbrand is the original big bad angry dude working for Khorne.  He was so angry he thought he could beat the God Khorne and tried to do it.  Supposedly some whispering from Tzeentch might have caused him to be a bit more gungho to hit the boss on the Bras Throne. But Khorne got mad and threw him far away.  He burned away his wings, got full of anger, and become the monster Skarbrand.  If you want to have a moshpit on the battlefield then you better invite Skarbrand.

Let’s see – this guy is a super murder Bloodthirster who can’t fly but ends up having Warp Locus, ignore inv saves axe attack, a ton of attacks, and can do a good deal of ungodly damage.  On top of that he gives out an aura of +1 to attack to everyone, auto passing morale to everyone, and you can’t leave combat unless you roll under your leadership on a 3d6.  Since he is a daemon he adds another -1 too so it is even harder to break free from the Mosh Pit of Death he brings with him.

Skarbrand Basics

Most of the time this guy is waiting in the warp and you utilize a little teleport tricks with Be’lakor to teleport up, have Skarbrand utilize Be’lakor’s Warp Locus, and get ready to do some damage to your opponents army.  Think of him as a gnarly cruise missile who needs to make a 6 inch charge to get to work.  Just a giant monster ready to wreck shop.

Locking in Close Combat

The Warp Locus and ability to lock combat is some of his more important abilities in the game.  He can come down off of a friend, get into combat, and hopefully have himself and the rest of your army staying dancing to the beat.  Heck he can wreck his target and his friends can stay dancing as he shuffles around ready to pounce on the next victim.

Sample List

Vincent Weibert took this to the Harvester of Souls a 54-player, 5-round Grand Tournament in Spokane, WA, United States on September 17 2022.  He ended up losing in the finals to a Creations of Bile list – which feels like a very rough match up to go into an assault army with army wide fight on death with another assault army.

Skarbrand Final Thoughts

Big Daemons are one of the Chaos Daemon armies that are showing up.  Be’lakor leads the army as Skarbrand and friend show up to punch things to death as the rest of the army tries to envelope and keep you locked in place.  It might end up being one of the armies to keep Leagues of Votann down as they get saves, dish out damage, and love to punch up as much as they can.
