It’s not Heresy to like these cards from the upcoming 40k Commander Decks — For The Emperor! Check out our favorite Imperial Cards!

Wizards of the Coast has already dropped a ton of spoilers and now we’re taking a closer look at the Imperial cards that got shown off with a few of our favorites. Here they are in no particular order.

Birth of the Imperium

This multi-colored Enchantment – Saga is a fun one to throw out there. It’s also a fun nod to the Imperial ideals of Sacrificing for the Emperor. Only in this case you’re forcing your opponents to sacrifice creatures and hopefully you’re also going to get a bunch of Astartes Warrior tokens as well as a bunch of card draw, too.

Triumph of Saint Katherine

I think this is one of those cards that’s just going to keep coming back. I’m a little surprised Saint Celestine didn’t get this rule…but it still works. In anycase, the Praesidium Protectiva ability allows you to recycle your graveyard back into your deck. You’re “exiling” the cards but really you’re just going to shuffle them and them stick them back on the top of your deck…you’ve basically lost nothing here and also have the chance to play this card for even cheaper. I’m not really seeing a downside here…

Thunderwolf Cavalry

If you can manage to score some hits on the enemy players with the Thunderwolf Cavalry you can really amp up the rest of your creatures with +1/+1 counters. Personally, as a fan of the Tyranid deck, I do like the idea of loading up on the +1/+1 counters…

Assault Intercessor

Let’s just ignore the text on the card and just look at the cost per stats here. It’s a 3/2 for 3 mana. Sure that mana is 1 colorless, 1 white and 1 black, but whatever. A 3/2 for 3 is already a great deal. Now…look at the REST of the text. First strike, menace, AND Chainsword?! This guy is nuts. I’ll take 4 please and thank you.

Swords to Plowshares

“Oh that’s not an Imperium card! That’s a classic MTG Card!!!” Yeah yeah…look at the art. C’mon. That’s awesome and if I could pick which version of Swords to Plowshares to run in all my decks, I’d choose this one. Hands down.

There’s actually a bunch of really great Space Marines, Adepta Sororitas, and even Adeptus Mechanicus cards in the Commander deck, too. I’m really looking forward to throwing down with any/all of these decks now!
