The Addams’ only daughter has been kicked out of multiple schools for her homicidal tendencies. Maybe she’ll fit in at Nevermore Academy.

Tim Burton is bringing the family back to the small screen with a focus on the Addams’ homicidal daughter, Wednesday. After being expelled from multiple ‘normal’ schools, she’s admitted to one more fitting. A school that holds a mystery for the cynical pre-teen. Welcome to Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts and weirdos… apply today.

The look and feel of the show is based on the original cartoons by Charles Addams rather than a continuation of the movies that came out in the 1990s or the TV show that aired in the ’60s. It also takes some cues from malcontent classics from Matilda to Heathers and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Carrie. Joey Ortega’s Wednesday looks fantastic and I’m digging the rest of the cast. The make it or break it for me is whether or not Burton can break out of his habits to create something that’s not just another one of his movies in a new skin. He’s got a cookie cutter problem.
