Games Workshop is introducing a new Lord Commander Solar for the Astra Militarum. Who is this new leader? Let’s find out.

You might be familiar with Lord Command Solar Macharius from previous editions of Warhammer 40,000. What you might not know is that Lord Commander Solar is actually a title given to the Overall Commander of the Segmentum Solar. This makes them the Commander of pretty much the entire Astra Militarum. Now there’s a new Lord Commander Solar entering the fray…and he’s got himself a horse.

“As the Lord Commander Solar, Arcadian Leontus sits among the highest echelons of the Imperium, boasting an unimaginable roll of titles, peerages, ranks, and probably a whole gaggle of attendants tasked solely with ensuring that his horse has enough cyber-hay.”

Lord Commander Solar Arcadian Leontus

Well, he’s certainly majestic looking. He may be a mere mortal but he’s got a superb diet, exercise, and rejuvenat treatment regime that keeps him in his prime. He’s looking for someone over a century old!

His trusty steed Konstantin is probably more machine than horse now. With much of it’s body replaced by cybernetic parts and added armor, Lord Commander Solar Leontus rides Konstantin into battle. And he does, indeed, lead from the front using his trusty pistol Sol’s Righteous Gaze and his power sword Conquest.

The Lord Commander isn’t all pomp and circumstance either. He’s got a few command tricks up his pristine sleeves.

“Unorthodox use of the tarot readers of The Collegiate Astrolex gives Leontus the ability to change one of his army’s secondary objectives or Agendas on the cusp of battle, reacting to his foe’s plans. Or if he’s feeling secure in his tactical choices, he can proceed with steely confidence and gain an additional Command point in the first Command phase.”

This is certainly an interesting option if you’re feeling like you need to change your battle plan at the last second. Alternatively the extra Command point can also be useful — seem like a win-win to me.

The new Lord Commander Solar and his mighty steed are featured on the cover of the upcoming Astra Militarum Special Edition codex. Get ready to see even more from the mighty armies of the Imperium!
