Warhammer Day was this past weekend and there were some great reveals. Now let’s talk about a few of the most important ones.

By now, you’ve probably seen the main reveals from Warhammer Day. Now we’re going to dig a little deeper into some of them and talk about what make them so important for the future of Warhammer 40k.

Astra Militarum – “There’s more stuff on the way for the Astra Militarum”

If you watched the Twitch Stream, you can skip to around the 49 minute mark. The big reveal here is that we’ve only seen “about half” of the new stuff coming for the Astra Militarum. Personally, I wasn’t expecting a full range refresh for the Astra Militarum — but this is HUGE news.

Considering we saw about 6 new unit updates plus the Kasrkins later and we already knew about Ursula Creed then another 6-8 models/units is a pretty big refresh! Now I’m wondering what kits are going to get redone…

Arks of Omen – “No New Matched Play Rules”

Again, during the Twitch show, if you skip to the 55:30 mark, Eddie explains that the new Campaign book, Arks of Omen, won’t have any “new rules for the core Warhammer 40,000 game” — that includes no new Matched Play rules to deal with. There’s no Crusade Rules in these books, no Matched Play rules either. That’s due to direct player feedback!

GW has gotten the message that players “don’t want the rules for their army to be spread over multiple books.” Thank the Emperor! That said, they did mention there were going to be new models from this series and the new “ways to play” ship boarding actions sound really interesting!

Abaddon’s Made A Deal With Something “New”

The video above was the last thing revealed during the stream. However, instead of a timestamp back to the stream, there’s the video on their youtube page. The point here is that there is SOMETHING new coming to 40k courtesy of the warp.

This is a major reveal because there’s a whole lot more going on than some creepy encoded video here. There are hints that this could be Dark Mechanicus related. At the very least a “Daemon in the machine” is coming to the tabletop. Furthermore, the title of the video is “Advent of the Arkifane” which could be a nod to the upcoming Arks of Omen campaign books as well.

We already did a breakdown of this video and had some extra commentary from GW added as well. The big reveal here is that “A New Power Rises From The Warp”  and these are our first hints at them. I’m really curious as to what this will be and if this is a start of a new chaos allied army or what.

I know that the Necrons are supposed to be the “Space undead” but they seem more like “Tomb Kings” undead instead of Vampire/space zombie undead. I know that the Pox Walkers of Nurgle have that infected zombie theme already. But based on the artwork in the video and those moving cable/tendrils, I wonder if we’re going to see some sort of techno-zombie undead. There’s a lot of space to play with those themes in 40k…

There’s some big stuff coming to 40k — what reveal were you most excited about?
