Dive into the history of the Continent and the magic it holds in The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Henry Cavill may be out as Geralt of Rivia, but that doesn’t mean the on-screen world he helped build is stopping its expansion plans. Up next is Blood Origin,  a prequel set in the far-flung past. The series reveals the creation of the first Witcher and the events leading up to the Conjunction of the Spheres. The event described in Assassins of Kings:

There are scores of learned works, dissertations, and treatises about this magical cataclysm from about 1,500 years ago. Because of this event, creatures never seen before entered our world and still do not have their own ecological niche here. Among others, graveirs and ghouls are relics of the permeation of the spheres, though elven tradition has it that we, humans, are also newcomers from that time. The sorcerers claim that humanity received both the wondrous gift and the terrible curse that they consider magic to be at that time.

This new teaser opens with sword-elf Scian (played by the ever-amazing Michelle Yeoh) performing a ritual before diving into the violence and devastation to come. And magic, there is plenty of that here.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Cast & Details

The four-part limited series is based on all new material rather than Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. But don’t fret; the author is on as a consultant to make sure everything lines up correctly.

Michelle Yeoh leads the cast, which includes Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, Zach Wyatt, Jacob Collins-Levy, Sophia Brown, Laurence O’Fuarain, Francesca Mills, Nathaniel Curtis, and Aidan O’Callaghan, among others. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who is part of the team behind the core Witcher series, is on as executive producer. It’s being run by Declan de Barra (The Originals)

Set in an elven world 1200 years before the time of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a tale lost to history. The creation of the first prototype Witcher and the events that led to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

The Witcher: Blood Origin debuts on Netflix on December 25th.
