JumpStart is bringing back some incredible cards, but it’s the new ones that you’ll really want to grab.

JumpStart 2022 has officially launched, and it’s full to bursting with value for new and veteran players alike. Current players can grab a few packs hoping to crack the power buried within, and fresh players can pick up a pair, shuffle them together, and play a quick intro game with a pre-balanced deck. While there are a good number of powerful reprints to give you a leg up on your opponents, the real draw of JumpStart is the host of new cards, the primary of which is the new legendary creatures.

Each one favors one of the thematic playstyles listed in JumpStart, but even on their own, they’re worth snagging for your EDH or Modern decks.

Lita, Mechanical Engineer

With all the artifacts in Brother’s War, a hero that can give them an early edge is worth its weight in gold. Lita is just that, allowing you to untap ALL your other artifact creatures at the end of your turn and giving you a source of powerful flying trucks. In a Kamigawa or Brother’s War vehicle deck or even just a monowhite artifact soldier deck, Lita will give you the needed jolt to let you play aggressively without sacrificing defense.

Isu the Abominable

While snow permanents don’t have as much support these days, they are still extremely popular, and Isu is here to boost that popularity. He is a big beater on his own and allows you to cast snow lands and spells from the top of your deck, giving you an insane amount of options. Even better, whenever you drop another snow permanent, you can buff the scary snowman to make him even tougher. Just pop some trample on him and show your opponents why they should fear the avalanche.

Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm

Rats have been a popular monoblack theme in EDH for ages, and Ashcoat is just here to sweeten the verminous pot. Her ability to give all your Rats the Coat of Arms effect whenever she attacks or blocks is powerful enough, but she also lets you pull two rats out of your graveyard for the petty cost of four cards milled. Considering all the recursion in Black, four cards off the top is nothing, and making all your rats enormous is well worth the risk of her attacking. Just make sure she’s protected in some way; you don’t want her going down.

Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence

Red is, by nature, the color of chaos. While you can produce a staggering amount of power, the blowback can sometimes be pretty bad. With Auntie Blyte, on your side, that backlash can be channeled into MOAR POWAH! The little devil gets a +1/+1 counter whenever a source you control damages you, and then for one and a red, she can redirect that damage to something else. Redirect the lightning Zuko style into a more tempting target, but be warned; she doesn’t have your best interests in mind.

Kibo, Uktabi Prince

Green isn’t the color for fancy tricks or cunning schemes; you just want big monsters, bigger monsters, and all the mana. Kibo is all that and a bunch of bananas (literally). He is kind enough to share his banana artifacts with your opponents, but then he immediately eats them himself when he attacks. Even better, when your opponent loses an artifact, all your simian warriors get stronger. Disregard strategy, become monke.
