Marvel’s Kevin Feige shares about updating their streaming strategy, Phase 5, Deadpool 3, and how excited he is for The Marvels.

Feige is always excited to share the latest with fans. He sat down with EW to talk about future plans and confirmed some rumors. Off the bat: Deadpool 3 will be the first rated R movie in the MCU. Blade is set to start filming with new director Yann Demange this summer. Sadly, he would not talk about mutants. And, yes, a story for Spider-Man 4 exists, and they have writers working on expanding it.

Streaming Plans

He confirmed they will slow down the streaming show release schedule, making some overloaded fans happy. The studio also seems to be backing off the ‘you need to watch everything for anything to make sense plan. Feige brought up She-Hulk as an example of the type of stand-alone projects they want to keep doing. Basing the strategy on how comics work – you have big titles and crossover events, but there are also fun one-off stories with favorite characters.

“…we have to continue to do different types of things. Does everything have to appeal to everybody? It would be nice. But I think that’s impossible. And if you try to do that, you’re going to find yourself in such a small funnel and pipeline that things will get similar and boring and atrophy very, very quickly.”

Speaking of one-off series, Moon Knight might be getting more screen time.

“The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them. Moon Knight, same thing. I think there’s a future for that character as we move forward.”

Feige also got into some of the big movies coming out this phase – like The Marvels, which is out July 28th. The film brings Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau together in a story that seems to involve the Kree-Skrull War.

“… there’s something immensely powerful about seeing Monica and Kamala and Carol together in a frame. To me, it’s only akin to the first Avengers movie and seeing the six of them together in a frame. It’s chill-inducing. They’re so great together, and they all have different histories with one another.”

Phase 5 Movies

Captain America: New World Order starts filming soon.

“I’m sure anyone you’ve ever talked with about Harrison Ford says this, but it’s unbelievable that we get to meet and talk with him and that he’s embracing this role. He’s tireless with the amount of work that he does. This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross. He’s the president of the United States in the film. And with Harrison, you think about ‘Air Force One,’ and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in ‘Clear and Present Danger.’ There’s a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we’ll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible.”

Also on the coming soon slate is Thunderbolts, built around David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Sebastian Stan. The bunch of misfits will be led by Bucky Barnes under the command of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Feige thanked the MCU’s casting directors for the cast they’ve gathered for it.

The studio head also talked about their streaming strategy, Ant-Man 3, and how lucky they are to have Jonathan Majors in the MCU. Make sure you read the full interview here.
