Five Questions We Have After ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Premiere

4 Minute Read
Mar 3 2023

Everyone’s favorite Star Wars bounty hunter/dad is back, and we have questions after The Mandalorian Season 3 premiere.

The Mandalorian is back with its third season. It was a packed premiere filled with a lot of classic Star Wars fun.  The Mandalorian Season 3 premiere took us all over the galaxy to catch up with a host of friends and allies of Mando. It packed a lot into a single episode. It also left us with a ton of questions about the future of the show and about what’s going on.

Are We Getting a Rebels Tie-In?

While traveling in hyperspace, little Grogu catches sight of some massive shadows moving just out of sight in hyperspace. While it’s not mentioned in the premiere, and it’s unclear if Grogu knows what these are, the audience sure does. These beings are Purrgils, massive space whales that can travel through hyperspace. Now, this might just be a fun nod to the setting or an easter egg. However, it could be something more. At the end of Rebels, both Thrawn and Ezra Bridger were carried away to parts unknown by a pod of Purrgils. We know that Ashoka is still looking for Thrawn, so these Purrgils could be a sign that we are getting more tie-ins to that storyline.

Will We See More of Moff Gideon?

Gideon was the main antagonist of the first two seasons of the show. This evil Imperial Moff had plans and access to a lot of strange tech and knowledge. However, he was captured at the end of Season 2 and as this premiere informed us turned over to New Republic Intelligence. We are left to question if this is the last we will see of the dastardly Moff, or if he will pop up again.

After the Premiere We Are Left to Question Why Everything Important Happened in Another Show

It’s really kind of odd how much important stuff to our plot happened in another show. Watching The Mandalorian premier really drove this home. In fact, all the driving elements of this season come from a totally different show. Din getting kicked out of the Mandalorians/Death Watch. Learning how to earn redemption. Grogu coming back to join him. Even getting his new space shop. All of this took place in the Book of Boba Fett. If you didn’t watch that show I think you’d have a lot more questions after The Mandalorian season three primer than even we did!

These aren’t minor details. It’s the goal of the main character this season. Din even has to kind of awkwardly go back to the Death Watch to rehash what happened just so the audience gets that info again. Grogu’s return however isn’t given the same treatment. It’s made even odder by a lot of other stuff happening off-screen. Bo-Katan’s faction and fleet vanished off-screen, her causes falling apart. Nevarro becomes a major trade hub off-screen. It’s just a little odd.

Why is Grogu Even Here

One of the big questions we had after watching The Mandalorian Season 3 premiere has to be, why is Grogu even here? Grogu and Din’s arc was completed in season 2. Grogu drove the story, but that story is now finished. Baby Yoda left. Now he’s back. The Mandalorian Season 3 does not give us a real reason why. In The Book of Boba Fett, it’s just because he likes Din better than being a Jedi. However, in the show in which he is a star, we don’t even get that much. Nor is there a real narrative reason for him to be here.

Jin has his own task and mission. Grogu is just along for the ride. At most he drives the Mando drives to bring IG-11 back (let’s be honest, Mando needs a droid to protect the world from Grogu, not the other way). Outside of “cute” and “cus merchandise” I don’t see the point.

The Biggest Question We Had After The Mandalorian Season 3 Premiere – What’s Up With Greenbeard

Who is the magnificent Gorian Shard? What’s his deal? Where did he get his rad ship? Does he know about Pirates of the Caribbean? So many questions.

Let us know what questions you had, down in the comments!
