Games Workshop Rumor Engine: ‘Thump, Thump’

2 Minute Read
Mar 21 2023

Looks like someone is about to deal out a proper thumping. At least that’s what the latest Rumor Engine is teasing.

The Rumor Engine is back once again (because it’s Tuesday and that’s just how it works) and today we’ve got an interesting looking stone-headed object to peruse. But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself!

via Warhammer Community

“The Rumour Engine is leaking the raw, uncontained stuff off pure rumourstone, filling the air with heady fumes no mortal was meant to breathe. Codex: Primaris Lieutenants is around the corner! Gargants now have a minimum unit size of 20! The Squats are returning! And to top it all off, there’s this image! Shut it off! Whatever it is, it’s definitely a Blood Angel Smash Captain with Thunder Hammer.”

A Pair of Points

So I feel like the meta-narrative is getting a little violent this month. Maybe someone’s getting ready fora scrape. Eh, good for them! In any case let’s talk about this new image. Now, GW teases us by dropping a few more hints and calling this a hammer of some type. They also use the phrase “Blood Angel Smash Captain with Thunder Hammer.” Which, I think, is correct on the hammer part of things, and totally in the wrong universe on everything else.

ANYHOW, back to the image. Where were we? Oh yeah, crude hammers. Well lots of factions use hammers but what about those straps and crude metal supports. Those are really throwing me off here. If I’m being perfectly honest, my first reaction was “Ohh could those be runes from the Ossiarch Bone-reapers?”

Their weapons do have leather straps and metal casings on them. But, again, lots of factions wield crude stone hammers. There are certainly other usual suspects in the Grand Alliance Destruction lineup. Looking at you Gloomspite Gitz!

I keep going back to those straps and metal casings though and they do look really similar but I can’t seem to find any exact matches. Unfortunately, at this point my brain has locked into this bias and I can’t unsee the connection. That’s where you come in. I need you help — if you’ve got any other suggestions on what or who could be wielding that hammer please drop them in the comments. Let us know why you think that’s what it could be. I’m counting on you.

Happy thumping!
