They say two heads are better than one, and when you’re fighting Phyrexians, that adage is especially true.

March of the Machine is officially out, and it’s already showing itself as an incredible set. From beautiful reprints of old favorites to powerful team-ups, this is the perfect set to wrap up the decades-long Phyrexian war. Fans of Commander should be especially excited about all the new generals introduced in the set. While some of them aren’t the best, a couple of legendary teams should definitely have a 99-card army. Whether defending the Multiverse or trying to Compleat it, these are heroes you can’t miss.

Slimefoot and Squee

Jund is already one of the more powerful commander colors, and this duo takes that power up to eleven. A 3/3 for three mana is already a fantastic bargain, but the Fungus Goblin also gives you a free Saproling whenever it enters the battlefield or attacks. Jund loves having fodder to sacrifice for effects, so a solid token generator is no joke. However, the true power of this card is the second ability. For four mana and the cost of a Saproling, you can bring Slimefoot and Squee back to the battlefield with about creature in tow. Not only will you make ANOTHER Saproling on ETB, but you can potentially pull a massive beater out of the yard. With all the power in Black, Red, and Green, there’s always a benefit in your yard. Best of all, they’re virtually immune to commander tax.

Drana and Linvala

Flying and vigilance are powerful abilities, and together they make most creatures a Kill On Sight. In Drana and Linvala’s case, that is the least of their sins. They are an incredible beater that also slows down your opponent’s wincon (unless they’re playing Gruul punch but even then). These Orzhov ladies shut down all the activated abilities of your opponent’s creatures, then steal them for themselves. Of special note; the card doesn’t say anything about mana abilities. Cutting off mana source creatures like Llanowar Elves or Priest of Titania can bring some decks to a screeching halt, and potentially end the game on turn four. While this commander probably won’t win you many friends, it’s sure to win you a ton of games.

Ghalta and Mavren

You know the only thing better than a giant angry dinosaur? A giant angry dinosaur is being ridden by a vampire soldier. This duo is everything Selesnya loves: big creatures, lifelink, trample, and tokens. However you like to fight, this commander can make your deck so much nastier. Like to make a bunch of creatures? Ghalta makes a bunch of tokens. Like big monsters running over your enemy? Ghalta makes a giant dinosaur. If you have a Doubling Season or Anointed Procession this card turns into an endgame nuke, since its effect triggers on every attack, not just Ghalta’s. Punch and punch hard, and turn your opponents into a smoking footprint.

Which commanders are you building?
