Goatboy here talking about how to build a new World Eaters army that can stay valid for 10th Edition.

Thankfully the World Eaters Combat Patrol box is finally coming out.  A big box full of miniatures with really only one choice that feels a bit off – depending on how 10th ends up being.  Those pesky Jakhals might actually be good, so while I don’t like them now – I might have to paint the ones I have and bite my tongue at how annoying they are to build.

First Thing – Grab the World Eaters Combat Patrol

So with that – let’s see where we can go with that boxed set and purchasing a few of the main models to make a list.  I think the boxed set pushes you toward an Invocatus/Rhino rush style build, and while it might not get you all the way there it is still pretty close when setting up the army.

The boxed set should run you $144 or so with taxes in most areas.  That gets you a ton of units, with almost everything being decent.  Let’s build the MSU-style list utilizing what you got in the army.  Will go with a Lord Invocatus as your main character, as I am not looking at an Angron build with this setup.

-HQ-
Lord Invocatus – 160pts

-Troops-
Khorne Berzerkers X 5 – Plasma Pistol X 2 (Champ has one), Icon, Eviscerator – 130pts
Khorne Berzerkers X 5 – Plasma Pistol X 2 (Champ has one), Icon, Eviscerator – 130pts
Khorne Berzerkers X 5 – Plasma Pistol X 2 (Champ has one), Icon, Eviscerator – 130pts
Khorne Berzerkers X 5 – Plasma Pistol X 2 (Champ has one), Icon, Eviscerator – 130pts
Jakhals X 10 – Icon, Skullsmasher – 80pts

Total – 745pts

This isn’t a bad setup and gets you a ton of stuff.  It also basically sets up all your troops pretty easily and all you need to do is look at some extra boxed sets to help finish out your army.  I think 2 Rhinos would be a great addition and help shore up some of your getting shot while you are hanging out.

Next, We Need Some Wheels

2 Chaos Rhinos should cost you close to 100 bucks.  Will load them up with a ton of options, too. We are looking at a few little mini gun boats to help us out.

-Dedicated Transport-
Chaos Rhino – Havoc Launcher, Combi-Bolter X 2 – 90pts
Chaos Rhino – Havoc Launcher, Combi-Bolter X 2 – 90pts

Total – 180pts

Next, Add Some Finishing Khornate Touches

From there, I think we might want to throw some money into some Eightbound as a method to help control some of the game.  I think going full MSU with them would be the best. So you can do a mixture of Regular ones to run with the Lord Avocado and then some Exalted to help punch things with a deep strike or just running around your buds.

We’ll probably do 4 boxes, as that seems to be the easiest and most basic way to set them up.  This would get you 2 Exalted Eightbound and 1 Regular 6 man/daemon/etc Eightbound.  That would be around 220 dollars and most likely tap you out if we are trying to keep a bit above 500 dollars for an army.  You could probably look around for something cheaper online too for those getting out of the army or 40K.

-Elites-
Exalted Eightbound X 3 – 135pts
Exalted Eightbound X 3 – 135pts
Eightbound X 6 – 240pts

Total – 510pts

Total Cost currently – $465  if you look at it.  From here this sits at a total of 1435 points and you have a lot of room to look at things.  Normally I would say add in some Chaos Knights but we don’t know their army builds we can do in 10th edition. I would rather not have you buy more things you don’t need, and play it safe.

Will probably leave this World Eaters list at that because again – with 10th Edition we don’t know the options to go.  I might look at getting another Jugger lord or finding one to add the extra parts from your Lord Invocatus and create the exploding 6’s chain axe jerk of doom.  Or you could again look towards doing some fun conversions and build some Rapier weapons from Forge World if you think they will still be good.  Or of course, the pissed off red elephant in the room –  just get Angron.

But this World Eaters list would let you have a good base to sit on. It gives you a good shot at building something really fun when the new World Eaters rules come out.  Who knows what they will have and how they will work?
