James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy might have its star if rumors are accurate. Do you think these actors are the right for Clark and Lois?

Superman: Legacy will mark the new DCU and is the only one with a release date – July 11, 2025. James Gunn is writing the project, which won’t be an origin story but will feature a young Clark. The story focuses on his life as a young reporter in Metropolis, where he meets Lois Lane and other key characters. Somewhere in between Smallville and the grown Clark, we’ve seen in recent movies. Expect a Superman that’s more like Christopher Reeve’s version that’s about hope.

“It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy Casting

According to THR, this is what’s going on in the movie’s casting process. The movie is about more than just Clark, so many names are floating around.

Several actors are connected to Lois Lane, including Rachel Brosnahan, the Emmy-winning star of Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I think she’d be fantastic as Lane if the story is right, but may not fit James Gunn’s timeline. Other names dropped are Emma Mackey, who will be in Barbie this summer; Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor; and Samara Weaving who was in Scream VI (she played the bride in Ready or Not).

While there is a list of names attached to the other major characters, one role seems to be stitched up. Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Most recently, he shared the screen with Nic Cage’s Dracula in Renfield. His career has had him play a variety of roles, from J.R.R. Tolkien to Beast and a war boy in Fury Road. He’s got range. I’m for this. If anything, it’ll be an improvement on Jessie Eisenberg.

David Corenswet is the front-runner for the role of Clark Kent/Superman. I can see why. The 29-year-old actor was last seen in Ti West’s Pearl with Mia Goth. He’s got a lot of TV under his belt, including the award-winning We Own This City. There are apparently two others in the running, but their identities are unknown. Jacob Elordi, Tom Brittney, and Andrew Richardson have been mentioned.

I’m liking what the rumors are saying; it’s going to be interesting to see what pans out. What do you think? Does anyone else come to mind?
