The new RTS game Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin has announced a release date and shown off some fantastic new features.

Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is shaping up to to be an excellent entry into the Real Time Strategy Genre. With their latest game overview trailer they have announced a bunch of in game tools that will add a whole lot of replay value to this one — Plus the official release date!

Realms of Ruin Release Date

The official release date is November the 17th, 2023. They sneakily announced it in the trailer at the very end. Additionally, if you pre-order it you can also start playing it 3 days early. If you get the ultimate edition you’ll also get a few extra hero skins as well as some future “Hero DLCs” and some profile options.

New Announced Features

Also in the trailer there were a few more features that were revealed. We’re going to briefly go over each one.

Map Editor

There will be a map editor that’s basically the same tool the game devs use to create the existing maps in the game. This is huge. You’ll also be able to publish these maps for download for others.

If you’re a gamer of a certain vintage you might remember how important this is for the history of games like Starcraft — it helped to launch entire new game genres like the MOBA. I’m looking forward to seeing what this map editor can do and how far the community can really push this one!

Army Livery Editor (Army Painter)

Do you want to customize the look of your army as well? Then prepare to spend some time in the Army Livery Editor. I think this mode alone is going to get a lot of mileage out of the game for me personally. It’s kind of like getting to paint an army without having to actually paint anything. And you don’t have to build the models first either. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the hobby aspects of Warhammer but it would be awesome to get to do some mock-ups of color schemes on these digital models first just to figure out if it’s going to look good or not.

Scene Editor

This one is for all you folks who are into dioramas and painting competitions. Not only can you use the map editor to create the ideal landscape you can then go in and place characters/models in the scene and manipulate them. Once you get it just right you can then enter photo mode and take pictures of your scene. I don’t know if this will be linked up to any sort of animation options but this could be really cool to play around with!

Two Campaign Modes

We knew there was a campaign mode but now we know it’s officially the “Cinematic Campaign” mode. This campaign will feature three different factions that have already been announced (Stormcast Eternals, Kruleboyz, Nighthaunt) and a one that has yet to be revealed.

The other campaign mode is Eternal Conquest is a single player challenge campaign. It uses a procedurally generated campaign that will allow players to push themselves to score more and more points. The scenarios here are a series of unpredictable battles and maps thanks to the Twists that will be introduced to change things up. If you’re looking for a single player challenge post-campaign this feature is for you!

Multiplayer Combat

This feature was already announced previously but you will be able to battle in both a casual and a ranked competitive playlist that features either 1v1 or 2v2 battles. You can also play against up to three AI as well. You’ll also be able to play Co-op with a friend as well.

You’ll be able to pick up Realms of Ruin from Steam, Epic , and on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as well. The game will also feature cross-platform play so regardless of where you pick it up you’ll be able to play with your friends!

Age of Sigmar is heading to the RTS genre in a BIG way!
