Warhammer: Age of Sigmar had some enticing reveals at Warhammer Day but italso had some no-so-great moments, too.

Today we’re tackling the things we liked and didn’t like at Warhammer Day from the Mortal Realms. We already talked shop about the Old World and the 40k side of things. So how did Age of Sigmar turn out? Let’s chat.

Big Winners, Big Reveals

The Big Winners in our mind are the two new models that got revealed. Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth is really freakin’ cool! This model feels like a huge nod to the OG Orion miniature from Fantasy:

That’s fitting since Orion was the avatar of Kurnous (aka the World-That-Was version of the Elven God of the Hunt). The Spear and the Horn are dead  giveaways. Also, the fact that Kurnoth Hunters are basically mini-avatars of Kurnoth, well, it all fits. Also the fact that he’s riding a smaller beetle-type creature vs Alarielle isn’t lost on me. Clearly this is a being of importance among the Sylvaneth — but not as important as Alarielle!

The other model that’s really impressive is the one of Ionus Cryptborn, Warden of Lost Souls. He’s basically a Drake Character and will be ideal to run in an army of Stormcast that’s leaning heavy on that theme. Overall, this is just a cool, mounted model — I don’t know what else to say about it!

Where The FEC Are You?

The biggest let down was the lack of news about the final Battletome for AoS. The only army without a current edition Battletome is the Flesh-eater Courts. So, just by process of elimination, the community kind of knows this book is coming. GW could have easily flashed the cover and at least confirmed this. Instead, they just kept to the script and didn’t mention that.

We did get the confirmation about Book III for the Dawnbringers: The Long Hunt. Which, that wasn’t really a big hit or let down. It just kind of…was.

GW didn’t go into a ton of detail about the rules section in this book. And while we did get some teasers, it’s clear they were holding back previews until we get closer to the actual release date. Personally, I would have liked to see more previews from this book and then the “tease” could have been Flesh-eater Courts. But hey, I don’t run the show…

Warhammer Day was informative and I’m always glad to see new models from GW. That aspect rarely disappoints — they’ve had way more hits than misses over the years. Personally, I don’t envy GW post-preview days because I’m sure everyone feels the same way: We all want more! I want more AoS stuff from GW so if that was the goal for the Warhammer Day preview, well, mission accomplished.

Winner: Model Reveals. Loser: Lack of FEC’ing News!
