This image might be obvious but there’s still a mystery to be solved. It’s Day 14 of the Advent Engine from Games Workshop.

Welcome to the Advent Engine! It’s that special time of year when Games Workshop’s teaser department kicks into overdrive and we get the Advent Engine every day for (almost) a month! No fancy tricks today folks. The image is pretty clear this time around. It’s so clear that you probably want to take this one in and see it for yourself.

“Is the Advent Engine getting tired? It’s pretty obvious what this is – but who or what is firing it? Ah, there’s the mystery…”

Advent Engine ‘Yep, That’s A Stormbolter’

I think the staff writer from WarCom and myself are on the same page with this one. We’ve got all the signs this is a Stormbolter from the double barrels to the two, slightly offset magazines. We’ve also got a winged skull on the side. It’s also pretty clear it’s got a strap coming down. You know, if we had a feather on here somewhere I’d know it was a Dark Angel wielding it. However, we do not. Additionally, I’m not seeing any spikes so I think it’s a safe bet to rule out any chaos folks. But that still leaves a pretty wide pool of options.

Terminators are the ones that typically use Stormbolters but we’ve seen them filter out to all manner of units. From other Space Marines down lowly guardsmen, and just about every Imperial servant in between. And don’t think for a second characters are safe. Even Yarrick had a Stormbolter!

I don’t know why, but this Stormbolter is giving me character vibes. It seems like the type of gun a character or special edition miniature would have. Or maybe it’s going to be part of some new multipart kit as one of the options for the warrior that’s using it.

So while the image from today is pretty easy to decipher the real question is who’s using it. That’s something we’re going to have to wait to find out.
