After someone “leaked” the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, Rockstar released it early. Gators, social media, and crime ensued within.

The new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was an absolute roller coaster yesterday. First, it was leaked ahead of schedule, and then Rockstar had to quickly follow up with the official release.

Now that it’s out in the world, the hype, thus far at least, seems entirely warranted. Because to say that this trailer hits the ground running is to say that Henry Kissinger’s death was only kind of nice. Once it gets started, the trailer doesn’t stop delivering everything you’d want to see in your GTA.

For starters, in the GTA 6 trailer, we return to Vice City and its surrounding state, Leonida. Leonida takes a cue from America’s most memeable state, and manages to be home to even more Leonida Mans (Leonida Men? Leonidas Man?) than you might expect. It’s also surprisingly full of gators, and yet, despite all that, still has nothing on Florida.

GTA 6 Trailer – Gators, Bikinis, Crimes

The GTA 6 trailer wastes no time. We meet our setting, Vice City, meet our “heroine” Lucia, as Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road” starts blaring up. And then it’s a quick intro into not just Vice City, but the area around it. In fact, in the first few moments of the trailer, there’s a surprising number of animals.

On the beach, there are birds and dolphins.

We head out into the Everglades (or whatever the Rockstar name for them will be, probably something more clever than Neverglades) on a fan boat. Find a whole lot of Flamingos.

And then, just when you’re thinking this is a surprising amount of birds, the trailer takes you right back to Vice City and all the GTA elements we’re familiar with. Beaches. Bikinis. Car chases. Boat chases. Strip clubs.

You know, the whole nine yards. And then, the game starts showing off some new hotness. GTA 6 will lean heavily into what’s going on right here, right now. Including the endless doomscrolling, which you can see in the in-game social media clips.

And of course, people have already started grabbing actual social media handles that match the ones made up in the game. And then after this, it gets excessively Florida/Leonia, with a Gator on the run, an old man in a speedo watering his lawn, you know, normal stuff.

GTA 6 will release in 2025. And at this moment, only on next-gen consoles, though if history has anything to teach us, the PC port will follow. Eventually.
