David Lynch’s divisive film and 2021’s critical hit return to screens in the coming weeks – make sure you get your ticket.

After Alejandro Jodorowsky’s and Ridley Scott’s attempts at adapting Herbert’s novel failed, it went to indie (at the time) director David Lynch. Dune was the largest production he had worked on. Alongside the principal actors, the production required 1,700 crew members, over 20,000 extras, and 80 sets. It was a huge undertaking.

Audiences weren’t sure what to make of the finished product, and it was a box office flop. The movie has since been praised for its vision, production design, and special effects. It has gained a strong fan base over the last several decades–even if its director isn’t among them.

Fathom Events is bringing the movie back to theaters for Dune’s 40th anniversary. You’ll have two days to catch it – February 18 and 19.

Dig deeper with this behind-the-scenes book. Film writer Max Evry has compiled a years-in-the-making oral history of the 1984 classic. The book includes new interviews with the film’s stars, including Kyle MacLachlan, Sean Young, and others. Plus, creatives that worked on the film, casting agents, insiders, and director David Lynch. Its pages also feature behind-the-scenes photos of miniatures, sets, and filming.
