Warhammer 40K: Top 5 ‘Codex: Adeptus Custodes’ Enhancements for 10th Edition
The new Codex: Adeptus Custodes has all new Detachments and a plethora of new Enhancements coming to 40K 10th Edition. Here’s the best of the best.
Goatboy here and as we continue to look at and review the new Adeptus Custodes codex, let’s talk about the top 5 Enhancements available. It isn’t all bad as there are a few powerful options mixed between all the detachments. I do think this codex could use a tweaking but let’s talk about the good stuff.
5. Talons of the Emperor – Aegis Protector
Protection from damage taken can be a powerful ability. Of course, it isn’t as good as others as it removes the first failed saving throw’s damage, but it still nullifies something. Custodes are still pretty tough, so just nullifying one bit of damage can start to mess with the enemy armies’ math.
4. Shield Host – From the Hall of Armouries
This Enhancement gives the bearer’s close combat weapons an extra point of strength and damage. The Shield-Captain in Allarus Terminator Armour or a Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike loves this upgrade as they can be used as a single bully unit that deep strikes in and tries to be a pain. Getting their weapons up to Damage 3 – especially on a Terminator Captain, can be scary as they come in with 7 attacks at Strength 8 and Damage 3!
3. Auric Champions – Veiled Blade
Just the fact it adds 2 extra attacks is a powerful thing, but then having a chance to get a boost to OC by tripling their score is just extra icing on your cake. I again see this added to Shield-Captains in Allarus Terminator Armour. These models appear to be the best thing in the Codex right now. I am hoping their points are not too high, as they are a great little single-unit model.
2. Null Maiden Vigil – Raptor Blade
Just look at all the things that get added to the character if they carry this upgrade. You get +1 to their Attack, Damage, and Strength characteristics. If they are attacking a Psyker unit it becomes a +2. That is pretty awesome, and if this Sisters of Silence Detachment gets used, this will be an important one for it.
1. Shield Host – Castellan’s Mark
Being able to redeploy after determining who is going first is powerful. This will be part of what makes the Shield Host work and hopefully helps keep them working well when players start to play the new and different army. I just like how the redeploy is done after you know who is going first. Tricksy!
