With a new edition on the horizon Games Workshop has a short video primer on the Mortal Realms featuring Callis and Toll.

Pull up a chair if you’re new to Warhammer: Age of Sigmar and check out this short introduction to the way the Mortal Realms work — with brief history lesson from Callis and Toll.

“Callis and Toll know a thing or two about the Mortal Realms – they live there, after all – and they’re the stars of a new video in which they expound on exactly how the Mortal Realms work and the practicalities of travelling between realmspheres.”

The Mortal Realms 101

Even as a veteran player of AoS there’s some interesting info in this video. What I like about this is that it’s an in-universe explanation for a lot of things coming from two of the characters that live there. They talk about how the different realms influence the others. For example how Hysh and Ulgu are essentially the day and night cycle. Or how Ghyran and Shyish cause what are effectively Summer and Winter.

They also touch on how the realms help to balance each other out. There’s even mention of how the economy of the Mortal Realms works. I’ve always appreciated the “ground level” look at things in both 40k and AoS. Hearing about how everyday life works in the Mortal Realms helps to make it more immersive and interesting to play around in.

I also liked the nod to the Dawnbringer Crusades. That particular storyline is actually coming to a conclusion with the new edition. While the Crusades to reclaim land might never end in the Mortal Realms the next chapter appears to be a rather large-scale invasion of Skaven. It seems like those Realmgates mentioned in the video aren’t the only way to travel the realms. The Skaven are using something else to get around….
