Horus Heresy: Saturnine Terminators Rules Reveal – The Most Advanced Terminators Ever

Games Workshop has unleashed the Saturnine Terminator Rules for everyone to see. What can the most advanced Terminators ever do?
The Saturnine Terminators and Dreadnaughts were some of the most advanced pieces of Imperial Tech ever developed. That’s not just me making stuff up, that’s directly coming from GW.
“Every aspect of Saturnine armour is carefully and thoughtfully considered: the suits are built strongly enough to mount weapons even heavier than other Terminator armour can wield. Additionally, it boasts a reactor powerful enough to operate multiple energy weapons and a thermal diffraction field that also aids in the safe dispersion of the deadly energies unleashed upon the wielder by their deadly plasma weaponry. Finally, advanced targeting systems allow Saturnine Terminators to aim and fire multiple weapons with unerring accuracy.”
The complexities in their craftsmanship were truly unlocked when the Primarch Vulkan took an interest in them. He then gifted their secrets to all his Primarch brothers as well. That said, these suits were rare — even during the Horus Heresy. But soon they are going to be showing up on the Horus Heresy tabletops all over. So let’s take a closer look at their rules and what they can really do.
“Their basic profile is solid across the board, but it’s their incredible durability that really shines through. They have a Toughness of 6, 3 Wounds and a 2+ Armour Save – backed up with a 4+ Invulnerable Save, that’s about as solid as it gets for infantry.”
Saturnine Terminators
I don’t think I really need to get into why a 2+/4++ save with 3 wounds each is already good. Now, they “only” have a 5″ move and a slower Initiative wise, too. That said, these Terminators are deadly standing still or moving which is impressive. The Occulix Targeting Auspex let’s them fire two guns if they stand still. Defensively, Implacable Advance means volley fire when getting charged is a thing they can do. Speaking of shooting their default gun is pretty mean!
Considering the Saturnine Terminators can basically sit in an obscured position and just blast away without Line of Sight…yeah, that’s bad news for enemy marines. With a 24″ range, they can cover a good chunk of the board while they do it, too. The other option is also deadly — and a tad more direct when it comes to shooting.
Remember, you can take TWO of those on a single model. Yes, the guns live up to the name for sure. Woe be to the unit of Space Marines that gets targeted by a full squad of Saturnine Terminators packing this payload.
Saturnine Terminators are slow in combat but if you’re gonna swing last, you better swing HARD. Thanks to their special disruption fists they can do that, too.
The Saturnine Disruption Fists quite literally pack-a-punch. Not even Custodians want to get knocked around by one of these fists. And it’s also got the underslung Particle Shredder just for some extra pain up close.
Praetorians In Saturnine Terminator Armor
You can see the stats and options for the Praetorians wearing the Saturnine Terminator armor above. Now the question is this: War Axe or Concussion Hammer?
For the record, I don’t know if there’s a wrong answer here. They both do their jobs quite well. I do think the War Axe is better for going after Infantry or getting into close combat fights/challenges. However, if you want to have one of the most potent counter-attacks available, the Concussion Hammer is a threat to basically everything. Sure, it’s slow. But it’s packing enough force to be a credible threat to anything on the tabletop.
And don’t forget about those Plasma Blasters, too. They are still firing Plasma after all!
One last thing to mention is that you CAN mix-and-match your Saturnine Terminator’s loadouts. This makes the have the option to be highly specialized or very versatile. The choice is yours.
How are you planning on bringing them to the tabletop?
